What on earth are you talking about?" Giselle snapped at Renee. "This is Kane Group's CEO office. Stop causing a scene. If you keep this up, I'm calling the police."
At the same time, Donovan didn't bother to acknowledge the commotion. He simply pushed open his office door and walked inside.
Renee hurried after him. "Donovan, let me make this very clear. I do not agree to your acquisition plan. Don't push me too far."
"Your agreement is irrelevant," Donovan replied with icy detachment. "The price I offered you is already the highest. Drag this out any longer and your loss will only grow. Think carefully."
"You—" Renee glared at him with hatred in his eyes. "I never expected you to be this vicious. Ruining Anne wasn't enough; now you want to take my company too. Donovan, did you lose your sense of guilt somewhere? Do you want me to drop dead in front of you before you stop?"
"Go die somewhere else." Donovan turned away, not even granting her a proper glance. "If you're smart, you'll accept the current offer. If not, figure it out yourself. Crying in front of me won't work. I only care about profit."
Seeing his expression devoid of even a trace of sympathy chilled Renee to the bone.
Then she looked toward Giselle.
"You little wretch. All of this was your plan, wasn't it?" Her voice wavered between a cold laugh and barely contained sobs. "You schemed your way into the Kane family just for this day, didn't you? To leave me with nothing. I have to admit, you're ruthless, just as ruthless as your grandparents."
Giselle let out a sharp, disdainful breath. "Renee, who exactly are you trying to win sympathy from here? Don't forget you have the blood of three Moores on your hands. Compared to your vicious heart, anything I've done is nothing. You could die a hundred times, and it still wouldn't make up for the atrocities you committed. Get out."
Renee had come intending to plead, to bargain, maybe to beg. But losing both her children had drained her of the pride and ferocity she once wielded like weapons.
