Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 644

In the following days, there was still little progress in Benjamin's case. His body remained at the funeral home.

On Sunday, Donovan and Giselle went to Benjamin's house to offer their condolences to his family.

Benjamin had been married for many years. His wife, Katie Doyle, was in her early 40s and worked as a manager at a rehabilitation center. They had two sons, the elder just starting high school and the younger still in sixth grade.

If not for the accident, Benjamin's family would still be living in peace. Life had been stable for them, much like the families of ordinary corporate executives. They weren't exceptionally well-off, but they led a comfortable life.

Benjamin's death was a fatal blow to his family.

When they arrived, Katie's eyes were still red and swollen. She had not been able to work in days, suffering from sleepless nights and constant crying. Apart from her hoarse voice, she also felt like she was about to go blind from crying.

Seeing how broken Benjamin's family was due to his death made Giselle's heart ache. It was hard for her to accept how cruel reality could be.

Benjamin had been an ordinary man. All he did was do his job diligently for his employer. Yet, he had been caught up in Donovan's personal vendetta and lost his life. His children had lost their father, his wife had lost her husband, and his whole family was left in despair.

Giselle wasn't the only one who felt guilty. Even Donovan, who was usually indifferent and cold, felt a weight in his chest.

"Katie, my condolences to you and your family," she said. "Don't worry. For Benjamin's case, we'll hire a lawyer and keep in touch with the police. We'll do everything we can to find the culprit and ensure Benjamin gets his justice."

"Thank you, Mrs. Kane and Mr. Kane," Katie choked out, wiping her tears. "I-I still can't accept this. I don't understand who Ben could've crossed for him to be murdered like this. I don't know how I'll manage from now on…"

"Katie, don't worry about the finances for now," Giselle reassured her. "Given Benjamin's years of service to the Kane family, we'll make sure his family is well taken care of.

"So after discussing with Donovan, we've decided to provide ten million dollars in compensation."

Katie perked up at the mention of the huge sum. The gloom in her eyes even disappeared for a moment.
