Chapter 81
The usually seductive and alluring Giselle looked completely different today.
Her hair was tied back into a simple low bun, and she wore a plain, short–sleeved top paired with a black A–line skirt.
Her fair, delicate face was makeup–free. An apron hung from her neck, giving her the look of a full–on housewife.
Yet even in this homely outfit, her beauty still shone through
Donovan let out a faint snort. A smirkalmost tugged at his lips, though he kept a straight face. “Is dinner ready?”
“Of course it is,” Giselle replied enthusiastically. She hurried over to him, linking arms as she led him toward the couch. “Come on, sit down and change your shoes.
She quickly fetched a pair of slippers, knelt beside him, and personally helped him remove his leather shoes.
Seeing her suddenly so gentle and attractive, Donovan gave a light cough. He was not used to this version of her.
Still, he leaned back into the couch like some pampered lord, watching coldly as she changed his shoes for him.
Once that was done, Giselle urged him to head to the dining table while she went into the kitchen to bring the food out.
As she busied herself in the kitchen again, Donovan sat down at the table. He was curious to see what kind of delicacies she’d prepared for him tonight.
Soon, Giselle emerged with two dishes–beef stewed with carrots and a fresh vegetable beet soup.
To spare her feelings, he summoned all his willpower and reluctantly ate the piece of pork As he chewed, he shot her a look, like he was staring at a monster.
Whatever seasoning Giselle had used had created a rock–hard texture with a bizarre mix of bitter, sweet, salty, and sour tastes, All the flavors had gone to war in his mouth
“Is it so good you can’t bear to swallow?” she asked with a grin..
It took Donovan a heroic effort to get that piece of meat down his throat. When he glanced at the rest of the dishes, he realized each looked worse than the last.
He couldn’t help but notice that the ones meant for the dog looked far more appetizing, perfectly seasoned, and just his kind of flavors.
“You plan on feeding me this stuff for a whole month?” he asked, face darkening
