Chapter 22
David’s face was turned aside, his eyes filled with shock and hurt. “L- Lisa, what can I do to make you forgive me?”
“I’ll never forgive you. From the moment you decided to wait for Helen to grow up and marry her, our fate was sealed.”
“She’s lost her mind now. Just come back with me, and I’ll make sure she’s gone. We’ll get married immediately. I was wrong–I can’t live without you.” David rushed to explain.
A flicker of emotion finally crossed Lisa’s face. She frowned, looking at him with disgust. “David, stop making me sick.”
Sick?
David staggered back two steps. His heart felt like a giant fist was crushing it, stealing his breath.
His Lisa thought he was disgusting.
Tears fell uncontrollably as he stared at her through blurred vision. His lips parted, but no sound emerged.
Just then, Dr. Jacob walked in from outside. He gave David a cool glance before approaching Lisa.
“Lisa, Grandma Brenda wants you back for dinner.”
Dr. Jacob naturally took Lisa’s hand.
She didn’t resist, following him out without so much as a backward glance at David.
David snapped back to reality and chased after them.
His leg hadn’t fully healed. Every step on the bumpy gravel road sent searing pain through him.
Soon, he was drenched in sweat from the agony.

“Lisa, give me one more chance. I’ll love you right this time. Please.”
David caught up and blocked Lisa’s path.
