Brother’s Best Friends Are My Mates novel Chapter 197

Lia

My mates knew I was pregnant now, but I also had to adjust to the fact that I was dealing with a pregnancy.

There was a child or likely children in my belly. I kept saying that there were twins. I had no proof yet, but it felt like there was. It was just one of those feelings I had deep down, as strange as that sounded.

Yawning, I was lying on the couch, trying to nap after having a difficult morning, throwing up a lot, when Simone burst into the room.

I was still processing everything when Simone practically burst into the living room, wild-eyed and vibrating with energy. “We have to plan a party!” she shrieked, already pulling out her phone like the planning was happening right now.

My head started to hurt. I wondered if I should go for another run. When I was in my wolf form, I didn’t have so many morning sickness. Strange that when I shifted, the morning sickness was mostly there, but I suppose that made sense.

Our human forms were technically weaker than our wolf ones. There were some wolves who didn’t live in cities or like to live such modern lifestyles. They lived out in the country, keeping their lives as far away from the red tape of city life as they could.

It’s not like I wanted to abandon living in the city or among other races and people. Except sometimes I did understand the appeal.

I blinked at her from my spot on the couch. “Simone, no.”

“Simone, YES,” she countered, grinning. “This is huge! You’re pregnant, Lia! With twins! It’s a miracle! We have to celebrate!” “I just told the guys yesterday,” I said weakly. “Can’t we just… I don’t know, breathe for five minutes?”

She gasped, putting a hand dramatically over her heart. “Breathe? Breathe? Lia, this is the kind of thing people throw massive celebrations for. Gender reveals! Baby showers! Mini cupcakes with tiny shoes on them!”

“I don’t even know what half of that means,” I muttered, dragging a hand through my hair.

“That’s why you have me,” Simone said brightly. “You’re an unpaid party consultant slash hype woman.”

The thing about Simone was that she was very excited. Once she got this excited, there was no going back. It just stayed that way until she got it all out of her system. It was something I accepted about my best friend a long time ago.

But when I just wanted to sit here and relax, it was a little annoying. Why did we have to go ahead and celebrate in such a way? However, I suppose celebrating wasn’t that bad.

I groaned, pulling a pillow over my face. “Simone, if you show up here with a cake shaped like a diaper, I will move to a different country.”

“No diapers,” she promised solemnly. “Maybe just… a tasteful little gathering. You know, nothing crazy.” I pulled the pillow down just enough to narrow my eyes at her. “Define tasteful.”

Simone shrugged innocently. “Balloons. Maybe a banner. A few friends. Some catered food. Live music. A photographer. Matching outfits.”

“Simone!”

She burst out laughing. “I’m kidding! Sort of.”

“Don’t get out of hand,” I warned, pointing a finger at her. “I’m serious. No giant banners. No fireworks. No doves being released into the sky.”

She pouted exaggeratedly. “You’re no fun.”

“I’m hormonal,” I corrected. “And one glitter cannon away from committing crimes.”

It was true. My hormones hadn’t kicked in too strongly yet, but give it a while, and it was going to kick in. Only a matter of time before I lash out at one of my mates or pack members, telling them I want to rip them a new one.

A terrible thing to say but I was pregnant for fucks sake. HOW else was I supposed to handle this? “Okay, okay,” Simone said, holding up her hands in surrender. “Tasteful. Tiny. Like, fun-sized.”

I sighed. “Just… something small, okay? Like, dinner-sized. Not ‘featured on the evening news’ sized.”

Simone grinned, not looking up from her phone. “Of course, Lia. Small.”

I didn’t believe her for a second. “Promise me.”

“I promise!” she said, way too quickly.
