Adriana nodded, a determined gleam in her eyes.

Margaret’s brow furrowed with concern as she spoke, “If Curtis truly cares about you, that’s wonderful… but how long can the sincerity of a wealthy man genuinely last?”

Adriana met Margaret’s gaze with unwavering confidence. “Margaret, you really don’t have to worry about me. I’ve crafted a plan to ensure I can stand on my own before his sincerity fades,” she asserted, her voice steady.

Deep down, she was acutely aware of her current lack of resources, but she was unbothered by the prospect of biding her time, waiting for the perfect opportunity to present itself. There was no shame in utilizing a man as a means to an end; after all, she had come from a background that offered her little support. She truly needed someone to help her rise above her circumstances.

“I believe in you,” Margaret replied softly, offering a gentle pat on her hand. “You’ve always possessed a strong will, even if your exterior seems delicate.”

Margaret spent a couple of days in Haldoria, and during that time, Adriana took her on shopping excursions, picking up thoughtful gifts for the children at the orphanage. She made sure to arrange Margaret’s flight back home, all while keeping her mind occupied.

Yet, amidst the bustling activities, a nagging thought lingered in Adriana’s mind: Curtis had not reached out to her at all. She resisted the urge to call him, not wanting to come across as needy or intrusive. However, as the silence stretched on, anxiety began to gnaw at her.

She longed to share the news of her pregnancy with Curtis, but a shadow of doubt loomed over her. What if something went awry during the checkup next week? The thought of disappointing him was unbearable. So, she chose to remain silent for the time being.

“Margaret, please make sure to call me once you’re back at the orphanage,” Adriana said, her voice laced with genuine concern as she bid her friend farewell at the airport.

“Don’t fret about me. You should head home now,” Margaret urged, her tone maternal. “You’re expecting—you need to take it easy, especially in these early stages.”

Adriana nodded, watching as Margaret passed through security before turning to leave.

In the throng of travelers, a man lurked, his eyes fixed on Adriana as she navigated the busy terminal. When she stepped into a more crowded area, he surged forward, colliding with her purposefully.

Chapter 131: Adriana’s Plan

His intention was clear: to strike her with enough force to induce a miscarriage. After all, early pregnancies were notoriously fragile and could easily end in tragedy.

“Watch out!” Just as the man lunged, Curtis appeared out of nowhere, wrapping his arms around Adriana and pulling her close, shielding her from harm. The assailant stumbled, crashing to the ground instead.

Fear flickered in the man’s eyes as he glanced up at Curtis, who towered over him. He attempted to flee, but Kenneth, ever vigilant, seized him and slammed him down. “Seriously? You think you can just attack someone and run away?” Kenneth growled, his voice dripping with disbelief.

Adriana stood frozen, her mind racing to comprehend the chaotic scene that had just unfolded. She looked up at Curtis, her voice barely a whisper, “Curtis? You… you’re back?”

Curtis tightened his embrace around her, exhaling a heavy sigh of relief.

He appeared worn and weary, with bloodshot eyes and stubble beginning to shadow his chin. It was evident that he had been working tirelessly over the past few days.

“Mr. Lincoln has been absolutely out of his mind,” Kenneth remarked, a chuckle escaping his lips as he gestured for security to escort the man away. “He crammed an entire week’s worth of work into three days. It nearly drove everyone to the brink.”

Adriana’s surprise deepened as she regarded Curtis. “Why do you look so exhausted…?”

“I haven’t slept in two nights, Babe…” Curtis confessed, his voice heavy with fatigue as he held her close.

Adriana’s heart raced as she returned his embrace, gently patting his back in a soothing gesture. “Let’s go home.”

The moment Curtis heard her mention “home,” he paused, as if her words had caught him off guard. A small smile broke through his weariness. “Okay…”

“…”
