Bullied and Dumped, But She Won in the End (Adriana) novel Chapter 142

**TITLE: When Time Tried to Heal Me But I Refused to Listen by Kael Niro Senn 142**
**CONTENT: Chapter 142 She is Special**

Cynthia sat rigidly in her hospital bed, every muscle in her body tense with frustration. She had exhausted every possible tactic to persuade Curtis to stay with her tonight, but all her efforts had been in vain. The room felt heavy with unspoken words, and her heart thudded painfully in her chest.

Her eyes narrowed as she glared at Adriana, convinced that the younger woman was deliberately trying to provoke her, to undermine her position in Curtis’s life. How could Adriana expect to come into their lives and take what was rightfully hers? After all, she and Curtis had shared countless memories over the years; there was no way Adriana could simply waltz in and steal him away in a matter of days.

Clutching her blanket tightly, Cynthia remained silent, her thoughts swirling like a tempest within her. The nurse entered the room, her presence a brief distraction as she prepared to redo Cynthia’s IV and administer another injection. Belinda sat quietly beside her, a comforting presence in the midst of her turmoil.

“According to the test results, there isn’t any major issue,” the doctor explained to Curtis, his tone professional yet reassuring. “However, the reason for her coughing up blood is still unclear at this moment.”

Curtis nodded, his brow furrowed with concern as he absorbed the information. “If anything changes, please contact me immediately,” he instructed the doctor, before turning his attention back to Cynthia. “Since the doctor says you’re fine, just focus on resting. Tomorrow, Kenneth will take you home after your discharge. Prioritize your recovery, alright?”

His words were clear and unmistakable: Kenneth would now be the one responsible for her care. Curtis had a wife to consider, and his priorities were shifting. Cynthia felt a pang of resentment, a bitter taste in her mouth as she processed this new reality.

Frustration bubbled within her as she looked at Curtis, wanting desperately to voice her feelings, to argue her case. But before she could speak, Belinda interjected, halting her with a glance that seemed to say, “Don’t.”

“Why did you stop me?” Cynthia snapped as soon as Curtis and Adriana left the room, her anger spilling over like a shaken bottle of soda.

“Mom…” Belinda’s eyes glistened with unshed tears. “Curtis… he really likes Adriana.”

Even Belinda could see it, and the realization stung like a slap across Cynthia’s face. She didn’t want to acknowledge the truth, but it loomed over her like a dark cloud.

“That’s absurd! Do you even know who Curtis is? He’s the CEO of Lincoln Group, the heir to the Lincolns. There’s no way he’d fall for an orphan like her! He’s simply using her as an excuse to escape his engagement with the Bartons. He told me himself—he wants to break free! You don’t understand him! None of you do! I’m the only one who truly comprehends his pain!”

Cynthia’s voice dripped with arrogance, her conviction unwavering. She was convinced that she alone held the key to Curtis’s heart, that only she could mend the wounds he bore.

“Mom…” Belinda’s voice quivered as she spoke again. “Adriana is really special. She’s different. Curtis is going to fall for her.”

“Shut up!” Cynthia shouted, her control slipping away.

She would not allow anyone to take Curtis from her. Never. The thought of Adriana having Curtis’s child was unbearable, a nightmare she refused to entertain.
