**When Time Tried to Heal Me But I Refused to Listen by Kael Niro Senn**
**Chapter 143: What Are You Guys Doing?**
The tension in the air was palpable as Danielle’s voice cut through the silence, laced with a simmering anger that was hard to ignore. “You still haven’t gotten rid of that baby? Useless.” Her words dripped with disdain, each syllable a reminder of the stakes that hung in the balance.
Nicole, her voice tinged with anxiety, responded, “Curtis stays with Adriana almost every minute. There’s no way for us to make a move.” The worry in her tone revealed the weight of their predicament, the urgency of their situation pressing down on her like a heavy fog.
Danielle, however, remained unfazed, her confidence unwavering. “It’s fine… Mr. Harold is suspicious by nature. Adriana was with Matthew for four years, so I know exactly what to do with her.” Her laughter echoed in the room, a sound that seemed to mock the very idea of failure.
“Will Mr. Harold believe it?” Nicole asked, her brow furrowing with concern. She was not convinced, and the doubt in her eyes was unmistakable.
“Of course. After what happened to Curtis back then, he’s always been wary of women. Mr. Harold only let him marry before you came back because he was afraid Curtis would refuse women for good, and the Lincolns would have no heir. Someone who’s always kept women at arm’s length suddenly gets a woman pregnant—it’s already suspicious. If Matthew steps forward, Mr. Lincoln will definitely believe the baby is his.” Danielle’s confidence was infectious, and it fueled Nicole’s resolve.
Danielle felt a rush of certainty. She knew Harold would undoubtedly grow suspicious given Curtis’s history. The man was turning 30 soon, and for the majority of his life, he had maintained a fortress around his heart, allowing no woman to breach his defenses. Aside from Cynthia, no one had ever come close.
Yet, over the past few years, things had shifted slightly. During his teenage years, Curtis had been practically paralyzed by his fear of women, unable to even engage in simple conversation.
“I’ll play along,” Nicole said, a sly smile creeping onto her lips, her confidence blossoming.
They had a plan. If they could eliminate Adriana’s baby before it even had a chance to take its first breath, the truth would remain buried forever. No matter how much Adriana protested, there would be no evidence to substantiate her claims.
The morning sun streamed through the windows as Adriana stretched in bed, her body still heavy with sleep. She blinked away the remnants of dreams, only to notice that Curtis was already gone, though the warmth of his presence lingered on his side of the bed.
“Curtis?” she called out, her voice echoing in the stillness of the house. She quickly got out of bed, her heart racing as she dashed from the room, a sense of urgency propelling her forward.
Silence greeted her, and disappointment washed over her like a cold wave. After washing up, she made her way downstairs, hoping to prepare a simple breakfast to ease the ache of his absence. To her surprise, she found Curtis leaning casually against the kitchen doorway, a radiant smile lighting up his face.
Her heart skipped a beat. Adriana felt an overwhelming urge to throw herself into his arms, the instinct to connect with him almost primal.
“Would steak and egg sandwiches be okay for breakfast?” Curtis asked, pulling her into a warm embrace, his voice soft and inviting. He was dressed in comfortable loungewear, his hair tousled just enough to enhance his boyish charm, and he looked as handsome as ever.
