Susan turned to see Jared and Monica standing there. Her expression immediately turned to ice. "Why would I go to your wedding? To celebrate with Monica, a woman so vicious she's framed me countless times? You want me to go out of my way to congratulate you two? What gives you the nerve to think I'd ever attend?" Wouldn't she be better off making money? Only now did she truly understand that when a woman shines on her own, she attracts her own light. Why would she need to chase someone else's?
She had wasted six years on this man. It was the biggest regret of her life.
Monica glared at Susan. She had won, yet she felt like she had lost more than ever. Susan was more beautiful than before, and she came from a good family. Monica had always been jealous of Susan, which was why she had schemed against her. Without those schemes, she never would have gotten Jared. And no matter how poor Jared was, he could still provide her a life without worry. People who have never known poverty could never understand how she felt.
Jared stared at Susan's exquisite face. A year apart had truly made her more beautiful. This woman, who used to have eyes only for him, now looked at him with nothing but cold indifference. And she wanted to meet another man. Natalie's brother, no less.
True feelings can't be hidden, and a person's eyes don't lie. Her gaze used to follow him everywhere, never hiding her affection. Now, there was only coldness. It was a change he found difficult to accept.
"Susan, I know you have some misunderstandings about Monica. I sent you the invitation because I want you to see that we're happy. Monica isn't as terrible as you make her out to be."
"Susan, you… you're my good friend…"
"What kind of friend am I to you? Jared, you disgust me. If you didn't like me, you could have just rejected me. But you wanted to have your cake and eat it too, enjoying my affection while chasing after Monica. I deeply regret ever liking a piece of trash like you. I may have loved you, but I don't regret my actions. I was brave and sincere, I loved and hated fiercely. I did nothing wrong. So what gives you the right to demand I attend your wedding? You just want me to see how happy you are, don't you? Well, you've gotten what you wanted. I've been out of your life for a year. What more could you possibly want?"
