Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 144

Cynthia realized he'd just played her, so she chomped down—fork, rib, and all.

Dominic froze for a second, watching as Cynthia started chewing with a stubborn satisfaction.

"To keep you from dining all alone, Mr. Holloway, I'll graciously set aside my troubles and join you," she declared, her tone just light enough to tease.

Dominic didn't reply. He glanced down at his fork, then quietly set it aside.

Cynthia knew she'd just bitten his fork along with the rib, so she offered him a clean fork from her side of the table, palm outstretched for him to return the one she'd used.

He met her gaze briefly, then handed over his fork and accepted the new one without a word.

Even with her stiff neck, Cynthia managed to eat with impressive enthusiasm, channeling all her frustration into her appetite and thoroughly enjoying the meal.

After dinner, Dominic drove her home.

On the way back, Cynthia sat in the passenger seat, frowning in silence. Dominic had yet to give her a straight answer, and she didn't want to push her luck by pressing further.

For some reason, her thoughts suddenly wandered to VistaSphere Group—and to Benedict.

If only...

The moment she realized where her mind was heading, she snapped herself back to reality and forcefully banished those lingering thoughts. In this world, there's no such thing as "what if."

She sighed softly to herself, searching for another way to handle the situation. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught Dominic's reflection—icy and unreadable—as he glanced at her while driving.

"Thinking about your ex while you're in my car?" His low voice carried a sharp warning.

Cynthia pressed her lips together, feeling the possessiveness radiating off him. She offered a sheepish grin. "Of course not."
