Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 264

He was right—Tremaine Holdings’ breakthrough would indeed have to come through him.

Cynthia had realized this long before she’d even returned to Cloudcrest City.

The Tremaines and the Holloway family had once been close allies, bound by tightly woven contracts. It was only after the Tremaines’ partnership with the Holloways dissolved that their decline began in earnest.

Both she and her sister had always hoped to rekindle that alliance. If not, her sister would never have sent her to work at Holloway Enterprises.

But how could she keep her relationship with Dominic strictly professional and, at the same time, make real progress between Tremaine Holdings and Holloway Enterprises?

“I’ll prove myself while I’m at Holloway Enterprises,” she said. “I want Mr. Holloway to see my value. Tremaine Holdings just needs a chance to turn things around. I’ll make sure he knows we’re still the reliable partners who can help create real profits for Holloway Enterprises.”

Dominic had waited for a long time, hoping for something more, but this was all she gave him. His dark eyes narrowed, a shadow passing over them.

“So this is how you plan to get past me?”

Cynthia nodded solemnly.

He studied her, his gaze sharp and almost predatory. “There are plenty of companies eager to work with Holloway Enterprises—many of them successful, with outstanding successors. If you’re only after profits, why should I choose a company teetering on the brink of bankruptcy?”

Cynthia opened her mouth, then closed it again, swallowing the words she wanted to say. She stared down at her hands in silence.

She desperately wished Jocelyn would come back and break the tension. She wasn’t sure how much longer she could hold out.

The waiters finished setting out all the dishes, but Jocelyn still hadn’t returned.

Dominic glanced up, noticing Cynthia lost in anxious thought, and without a word, he picked up the serving fork and placed the first piece of roast into her plate. “Eat. Jocelyn’s not coming back.”

Cynthia stared at him, speechless.

She refused to believe Jocelyn had just abandoned her. Determined, she picked up her phone to call her.
