After her huge fight with Alexander that morning, Isabella didn't receive a single call on her internal line all day, nor did she see him leave his office. By the time work ended, she glanced at his office one last time, shut down her computer, and left.
Outside the building, she saw Jessie waiting at the entrance. That was when she remembered Jessie had mentioned wanting to grab dinner together that morning.
"Oh, shoot! I totally forgot about our dinner. Wait a sec. I need to text my family first," she said.
Jessie smiled and nodded. Once Isabella sent her message and put her phone away, Jessie asked, "Are you reporting to your fiance?"
She was the only colleague at the company that Isabella could really call a friend. She knew about Isabella's fiance and also about her strained relationship with her adoptive parents.
She smiled happily, then leaned closer and whispered, "No. That one's already out of the picture. This is my new… boyfriend."
Knowing Jessie would squeal with excitement if she heard that, she made a shushing gesture in advance.
Jessie covered her mouth but couldn't hide her squeal. "Really? What's he like? Judging from your smile, he must be amazing."
Isabella nodded, beaming. "He's a wonderful guy."
The two laughed as they headed for the subway. Jessie had booked a table at a continental restaurant, and Isabella only realized once they arrived that it was a private room.
"Just the two of us… Why a private room?" Isabella asked, puzzled.
Jessie led her to the seat. "I know the owner. When I said I was reserving a table, he immediately gave me the private room."
Isabella frowned. "It's just the two of us. This private room is way too big. Why don't we move outside and let someone else use it? Your friends could do business here."
