"Are we going to your family's home today?" Isabella asked. "That's so sudden. I wasn't even mentally prepared!"
The moment she heard Theodore's words, she started getting nervous.
Theodore looked at her with affection in his eyes and smiled. "What's wrong? Are you scared?"
She nodded quickly, her nerves getting the best of her. "Who's going to be there? You've never told me."
He thought for a moment, then answered simply, "There are a lot of people at the Sinclair residence."
The Sinclair family was the most powerful in Solara, so of course, there were plenty of people. But if one only counted his close relatives, it really just came down to Alexander's side.
Meanwhile, Isabella guessed he must've had a bunch of brothers and sisters growing up, which was probably why he'd had to work as an escort to help support them. Kids from poor families had to work at a young age. It couldn't have been easy for him.
"Then I'll stop by the mall at lunch to pick up some gifts. It's my first time meeting your family, so I should bring something. What do you think I should buy?"
He smiled faintly. "It's up to you. Whatever you want to buy is fine."
Usually, it was the younger relatives scrambling to buy him things to win him over. As for the elders in the family, as long as he didn't give them trouble, that was already doing them a favor. The idea of him buying them gifts was just laughable.
"So I'll just go with what I think is best?"
No matter what she said, he would just nod. He was being so agreeable that it actually made her feel a little uneasy. She secretly hoped that his family would be just as easy to get along with.
At lunch, instead of eating, she went to the mall across the street from the company. She picked up supplements for the elders, fruit baskets, and snack packs for the younger ones. She didn't have much money, but she chose expensive items anyway, worried about embarrassing Theodore.
Loaded down with bags, she brought them back to the office. Since it wouldn't look great to carry so much into her workspace, she left them at the front desk, asking the receptionist to keep an eye on them.
The receptionist was a sweet young woman who always greeted her when they crossed paths. Seeing Isabella carrying so many bags, she asked curiously, "It's not a holiday. Why'd you buy all this? Is the mall having a sale?"
Isabella smiled. "No, they're gifts."
"Wait, you're not meeting your boyfriend's family, are you?"
