Isabella couldn't say she liked someone she'd known for less than a month. Theodore was still a stranger to her.
Suddenly, Alexander softened his tone. "Isabella, I can help you. Just say the word."
She stared at him blankly. A wild thought sparked in her mind. Looking at the way he acted now, could it be that he still liked her?
Impossible!
Isabella quickly dismissed it.
Alexander was proud, arrogant, and full of himself. She was the one who had ended things three years ago. To be honest, the fact that he hadn't hated her was already unbelievable.
"Alexander, thank you, but I really don't need your help," she said. Her voice was distant. She took a step back, deliberately keeping the space between them.
Alexander's eyes turned gloomy as he looked at her intently.
She smiled at him and said, "I'll stick to calling you Mr. Sinclair at work. Just treat me like any other employee. Don't give me special treatment because of your uncle. If there's nothing else, I'll head out now."
In just a few words, Isabella had already made it clear where she stood.
Alexander's face immediately darkened.
But Isabella had already turned and opened the office door, walking out. The moment the door closed, the forced smile she'd been holding onto slipped away.
Her mind was a mess all day. That afternoon, she suddenly got a call from the receptionist that Margaret had arrived and was waiting at the entrance. She was already wound tight, and that sudden call was all it took for her to snap.
She stepped out of the elevator and immediately saw Margaret sitting in the lobby. She was wearing a bright red dress with an orange Hermes shawl draped over her shoulders, legs crossed elegantly.
If anyone didn't know her, they'd think she was some wealthy socialite. But the way she spoke gave her away.
"Well, well, Isabella, your office is quite impressive!"
Isabella strode past her without slowing and said, "We'll talk outside!" Then, she kept walking.
Margaret had no choice but to jog after her.
