After leaving the store, Isabella returned home with a large bag of items. When she keyed in the passcode, there was no response despite multiple attempts to open the door. She suddenly felt a little panicked at that moment.
Deep in her heart, she wondered if Theodore had changed the passcode because he'd finally had enough fun with her and had decided to kick her out. She laughed inwardly at herself. She had become homeless once more.
She crouched by the doorway, but after some thought, she felt that she looked too sorry a sight sitting here. If Theodore were to come back and see her like this, she'd find it too awkward to face him.
She started forward, only to realize that she didn't have anywhere to go, so she figured she might as well sit by the roadside. Whether or not Theodore was actually kicking her out, some matters required proper explanation.
The sky gradually darkened. Isabella kept watching the road, but Theodore's car never appeared. She kept watch from afternoon until night but didn't see a single car.
Could it be that he didn't intend to come back here again? Wealthy people often had many houses, after all, and this place was only one of Theodore's many properties.
Isabella smiled bitterly at her own pitiful state. It wasn't until this moment that she finally realized she didn't have a single friend to rely on in her life.
In the past, she used to think that she didn't need such friends at all; now, she thought that as long as she had a friend she could talk to about her problems, she'd at least have someone to share her woes with.
She ended up falling asleep on her knees as her mind wandered.
She dreamed that she was in a place filled with ice and snow. However, she was still wearing summer clothes, so the biting wind seemed to reach into her bones. She didn't even have anywhere to hide as there was only endless snow in every direction.
All she had was the strong feeling that she was going to die here.
If she was going to die, then so be it. She was born an orphan, after all. After all these years of living, she still didn't have a single loved one, so she might as well let everything end with her death.
At that moment, she was tightly surrounded by warmth. She struggled to open her eyes, but her eyelids felt incredibly heavy, and she couldn't open her eyes at all. Who exactly was hugging her? Had someone come to rescue her?
"Bella! Bella! Wake up!"
Who was calling out to her? And they were addressing her so affectionately, just like her mother…
Isabella gradually fell into a peaceful sleep in the warm embrace.
She woke up from thirst in the middle of the night. Her mouth felt dry, and her throat hurt badly as well.
There was only one night light on in the room. She struggled to sit up in bed, but just as she was about to get out of it, Theodore's voice scared her so much that she almost leaped into the air.
"You're awake? Drink the lemon water at your bedside!" His voice was colder than the field of snow in her dream. She felt a pang in her heart.
