When Xuan Long finally came back to the cave, Su Qinglan almost dropped the vines with which she was trying to weave a basket.

Because Xuan Long had dropped a whole mountain of fruits in front of her, glistening with dew. Red, green, yellow, even some that shimmered like they were glowing faintly in the dim light of the cave.

She blinked, rubbed her eyes once, then twice, thinking maybe she was dreaming.

"What... what are these?" she stammered, stumbling forward a few steps. The smell alone made her dizzy — it was sweet, fragrant, completely out of place in the dim cave.

She had searched for fruits before. In this world, real sweet fruits were like treasures. Most were either poisonous or tasted so sour that no one could eat them. Finding a truly sweet one was rare, and even if someone did find it, beasts usually guarded those trees fiercely.

But here... here was a whole mountain of them.

She crouched down and stared at them in awe. "This... this one looks like dragon fruit," she murmured, her fingers brushing over the pink, scaly skin. "And this... wait, this one looks like an apple! But it’s so big... bigger than my face!"

She turned toward Xuan Long, eyes wide. "Are they all... sweet fruits?"

Xuan Long nodded once, his calm face faintly proud. "Mn. I confirmed each one before bringing them."

Her heart jumped a little. Confirmed? Did he... taste them himself? She didn’t even want to imagine that scene.

Still, she was so happy she could almost cry. She hurried to the corner of the cave where a large stone bowl sat, filled with clean water. She scooped a little water from it and dipped fruits into it, washed them carefully, then lifted one glistening red fruit and took a big bite.

The moment the juice touched her tongue, her whole face lit up.

"So sweet!" she mumbled with her mouth full and shining eyes. "So, so sweet!"

The taste exploded in her mouth — it was juicy, fragrant, almost like something from a dream. Even back in her old world, in the apocalypse, fruits had been a luxury. Just seeing one was rare, let alone tasting it fresh like this.

Before she even swallowed, she took another bite.

Xuan Long just stood there, quietly watching her.

The corners of his lips softened as he looked at the female who was nibbling the fruit like a little tree beast, her tail puffed high, her small ears twitching happily. There was even a faint stain of juice on her chin, and her eyes curved into half-moons as she chewed.
