For a second, Su Qinglan froze. Then, as she met his eyes again, she realized he truly meant it. He wasn’t staring at her body. He wasn’t even looking anywhere inappropriate; his gaze was straight and calm, only focused on his task.
And in that moment, she suddenly felt like she was the one with the dirty thoughts.
Her face turned crimson from the neck up. Great, she scolded herself silently. He’s just helping, and I’m the one thinking nonsense.
Trying to calm down, she took a deep breath and stood still, letting him help her. His fingers brushed lightly against her shoulders as he lifted the smooth, shining fabric over her. It felt cold at first, almost like water.
The texture was unlike anything she had ever worn before. It clung softly, adjusting to her shape perfectly, like it was made for her.
When he tied the last piece at her back, she finally exhaled and looked down.
The outfit was stunning.
It shimmered softly with every movement, cool and comfortable, fitting her body as if tailored perfectly. The emerald color made her skin glow faintly in the dim light.
"This..." she whispered, touching the fabric gently. "It’s so beautiful... Where did you even get this design? It looks like something made for a festival!"
"I made it," Xuan Long said simply.
Her eyes widened. "You... made this?!"
He nodded once, calm as always. "I sewed it myself. From my shed scales."
Su Qinglan’s mouth opened slightly. "You... sewed it yourself?"
"Mn." He looked at her quietly. "I thought it would suit you."
She blinked, stunned and impressed at the same time. The thought of this fierce, proud serpent beastman sitting down and sewing a dress for her... made her chest feel strangely warm.
"You really surprise me, Xuan Long," she said, smiling softly. "You hunt, you bring fruits, and now you even make clothes... Are you sure you’re not secretly training for House Hubby?"
He tilted his head, confused. "House hubby?" 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
She laughed lightly. "It means someone who’s really good at taking care of his mate."
That made his emerald eyes widen slightly, a small, unreadable curve appearing on his lips. "Then I’ll be that."
Her heart skipped once, and she had to look away quickly, pretending to check the edges of her new dress.
But when her gaze accidentally flicked back to him, to his bare, smooth upper body, the faint lines of muscles under his pale skin, and the shimmer of faint green scales near his collarbone, her face turned scarlet again.
Okay, stop it, she told herself. He’s innocent. You’re the only one with a gutter brain here.
Still, she couldn’t help but mutter under her breath, "Why does he have to be half naked while helping me wear clothes...?"
"What?" he asked, tilting his head again.
