Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 440

An officer swiftly tackled Tricia to the ground. Two more rushed over to restrain her, dragging her away as she shrieked hysterically. Her voice grew hoarse and ugly, her face twisted into a demonic mask of rage. The sight of her bloodshot eyes terrified Charlotte more than she could say.

"Mr. Howard, it's time to go," a bodyguard prompted.

Evander didn't answer. He looked down at the woman in his arms, then swept her up and carried her out of the courthouse.

In the parking lot, Charlotte finally found her voice. "Evander, you can put me down now."

He gently set her on her feet. Today's events had been completely unexpected. Her own evidence had remained unused, and Zoe had been utterly defeated. From the moment Tricia was hospitalized, it was clear someone else had been pulling the strings.

She looked up at Evander, and their eyes met. For the first time, she felt a strange discomfort and quickly looked away. He had destroyed Tricia's last hope of escape, and while she could never forgive what Tricia had done to her parents, facing Evander now left her with a swirl of confusing, contradictory emotions.

The silence stretched on. Evander glanced at his watch. "Judd didn't come with you?"

Charlotte blinked. "What does Professor Carstairs have to do with this?"

He let out a low chuckle. "Aren't you planning on giving him a chance?"

"Whether I give him a chance or not is none of your business!" she snapped, turning to walk away.

Evander grabbed her arm. She stumbled backward, and he caught her, his hand resting firmly on the small of her back. A half-smile played on his lips. "Getting angry over a simple question? Are you saving this temper just for me?"

Charlotte pushed against his chest. "If you're sick, go get help!"

"I am sick. You know that," he said with a soft laugh, reluctantly letting her go. "I'll take you home."

When she didn't reply, he raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong? We're not even divorced yet. Are you already worried another man will get the wrong idea?"
