Crossing the Border (Rania) novel Chapter 249

**He Asked Me to Leave My Dreams, So I Decided to Make Him One of Them by Mira Lorian**
**Chapter 249**

Karin stood in the grand hall, her heart racing with a mix of anticipation and dread as she awaited the return of the king and queen. The air was thick with her anxiety, and she found herself pacing slightly, her thoughts spiraling into dark possibilities. But when she finally spotted them entering, relief washed over her like a cool breeze on a stifling day. Yet, that relief was quickly overshadowed by a surge of panic as she noticed the king, Maximus, cradling Rania in his arms.

“My king, is she… alright?” Karin hurried forward, her eyes darting to Rania’s peaceful face, searching for any signs of distress.

“She is sleeping,” Maximus replied softly, his voice low as if afraid to disturb the delicate state of rest Rania had fallen into. He moved with deliberate slowness, careful not to jostle her awake. “Come with me and check on her.”

“Yes, my king,” Karin responded, her heart swelling with gratitude at the sight of Rania’s serene expression. She fell in step two paces behind Maximus as they made their way to the chamber, her mind racing with relief that Rania was indeed safe.

Maximus held Rania protectively, as if afraid that the slightest change in her condition might shatter this fragile moment. He still struggled to comprehend the miracle of having her back after the torment of losing her.

If this were a dream, he thought, he would gladly remain in this blissful state forever, never wanting to wake.

“How is she?” Maximus inquired, his gaze fixed on Rania’s damp dress, a reminder of the ordeal she had endured. He planned to tend to her once Karin had finished her checks.

“She is fine, my king. Tired, but overall she is fine,” Karin assured him, her smile radiant as she felt the weight of their shared relief.

“What do you think happened back then?” Maximus laid Rania gently on the bed, his hands deftly reaching for a towel to dry her. The gentle movements were infused with care, a silent promise to protect her.

“Let me do it, my king,” Karin offered, stepping forward to assist, but the king shook his head firmly.

“No. I will do it. You answer the question.” His tone was resolute as he began to dry Rania’s body, moving with a tenderness that spoke volumes of his affection. He carefully worked his way to her long, flowing hair, trying to make her as comfortable as possible.

“I have thought about it…” Karin began, her brow furrowing in concentration as she delved into her thoughts. The mystery of Rania’s awakening and subsequent transformation had consumed her mind, and she felt compelled to find a logical explanation.

People in the kingdom spoke of miracles, attributing Rania’s recovery to divine intervention. But Karin, ever the pragmatic healer, believed there had to be a more rational explanation lurking beneath the surface.

“And then?” Maximus prompted, his patience waning slightly as he awaited her insight.

“I don’t have an absolute answer for this, but I have a theory.” Karin took a deep breath, trying to articulate her thoughts clearly, knowing the importance of her words. “I think when she failed to shift into her beast initially, the beast wasn’t dead as we assumed. It was weakened, yes, but not gone.”

In her heart, Karin felt that Rania’s ordeal had awakened something deep within her—the wolf spirit fighting to protect its host, gaining strength in the process.

“So, Rania could ‘comeback’ from death,” she concluded, her voice steady but filled with uncertainty.
