Chapter 11
With that, she turned and stormed off, her back looking resolute.
Gabrielle watched her disappear, a trace of unease creeping into her heart.
There was something in Cecilia’s eyes, more than just a threat.
There was madness. The kind that dragged everything down with it.
She shook off the bad hunch and walked into her villa.
The next two days, Gabrielle was busy tying up loose ends.
She contacted an agent and listed several of her investment properties for sale.
She also went to the bank to handle some anonymous offshore assets.
There was still no word from Zachary, but Gabrielle wasn’t in a hurry.
For something like faking her death, the more meticulous, the better.
On the evening of the third day, Gabrielle had just finalized a transaction involving a foreign fund.
She was driving home. It was already dark.
The road was remote and the streetlights were dim.
Out of habit, she glanced in the rearview mirror.
A black van with its headlights off had been following her, keeping just enough distance.

At first, she thought it was a coincidence. But after two intersections, it was still behind her.
Her stomach dropped. Cecilia’s expression flashed in her mind.
Gabrielle gripped the wheel and slammed the accelerator, trying to shake it off.
But the van also sped up and stayed close to her tail.
Worse yet, it started swerving left and right, trying to force her off the road.
Sweat beaded on her forehead. She was doing 120 km/h now.
Suddenly, another identical van shot out from an intersection ahead.
One in front, one behind. They were sandwiching her in.
With a screech of tires, Gabrielle was forced to a halt in the middle of the road.
The car door was yanked open violently.
Several tall and menacing men surrounded her car.
The bald one at the front yanked the door open with an evil grin.
“Ms. Cobbett, right? Someone asked us to teach you a lesson.”
His eyes were filled with undisguised malice.
Gabrielle’s heart pounded wildly, but she forced herself to stay calm.
“If it’s money you want, I can give you whatever you need.”
The bald man chuckled, revealing a mouthful of yellowed teeth.

“Money? Our boss said we’re not short on money.
“What we lack is seeing a spoiled little princess like you suffer something worse than death.”
Another man circled to the passenger side, trying to force the door open.
Gabrielle had locked all the doors tightly, her palms drenched in
sweat.
She knew that they weren’t here to rob her. They were here to destroy
her.
Cecilia. It had to be Cecilia.
“Do you know who I am? If you touch me, the Cobbett and Goldstein families will never let you go!”
She tried using her family’s names as a threat.
“The Cobbetts? The Goldsteins?”
