Ditch My Ex (Gabrielle and Timothy) novel Chapter 10

Chapter 10

Jazlene hesitated, lips pressed tight. But in the end, she gave a slow nod, her eyes betraying a sense of gratitude.

The wedding will be held in one week,Emmitt declared like he was signing a business contract. We’ll invite prominent guests from all over.

As Gabrielle stepped out of the Goldstein estate, a wave of lightness swept over her.

Zachary’s black Cullinan was still parked outside.

Change of plans, she said as she opened the car door, voice calm.

Zachary raised an eyebrow but asked nothing.

One week from now, there will be a wedding,Gabrielle stared ahead, unwavering. And that’s the day I’ll die.

Zachary tapped the steering wheel lightly with his fingers upon hearing her words.

Turning slightly, he looked at her curiously.

My dear Ms. Cobbett, you’re really raising the stakes.

That’s the marriage alliance between the Goldsteins and the Cobbetts. Highprofile and highrisk.

He wasn’t questioning her, merely stating facts, assessing the complexity of the deal.

The greater the risk, the more believable it looks, doesn’t it?

Chapter 10

Gabrielle’s voice was completely devoid of emotion as if she were talking about someone else’s business.

Zachary studied her resolute profile and then the playful smile appeared on his face again.

Interesting. I like it. Thrilling. But we’ll need to redesign the details.

And renegotiate the price.

Money isn’t the issue. I want absolute certainty.

Her tone was firm, leaving no room for argument.

Zachary gave a low whistle and said no more. The RollsRoyce Cullinan glided smoothly away from the Goldstein estate.

He dropped Gabrielle off at her private villa.

I’ll give you an initial plan in three days. Stay in touch, Ms. Cobbett.

He handed her a new business card, printed with nothing but a number and the word Joker.

If anything unexpected happens, call this number.

Gabrielle accepted the card and watched the Cullinan disappear down the road.

Just as she turned to enter her home, a shrill voice pierced the night.

Gabrielle Cobbett! She froze and then slowly turned around.

Cecilia stood not far away, still wearing the same leather jacket m the day before, hair disheveled, eyes swollen and bloodshot.

Her face was twisted with a mix of hatred and desperation, her gaze fixed on Gabrielle like a wild animal.

Chapter 10

You must be happy now! Forcing Timothy to break up with me and marry you!

Cecilia stormed closer, voice rising with every word, her tone hysterical.

Gabrielle looked at her distorted face, feeling no anger but exhaustion.

She couldn’t be bothered to explain the fake marriage. Cecilia wouldn’t believe it anyway.

I didn’t force him.

Her voice was calm.

You didn’t? If not for you, he wouldn’t have left me.

If the Cobbett family hadn’t pressured him, he never would’ve agreed to marry you.

Cecilia was nearly deranged now, her eyes brimming with venom.

You think you’ve won, Gabrielle? What you’re getting is just an empty shell.

Listen. So long as I’m alive, don’t expect peace.
