Chapter 9
“People like us… Do we really get to be free?”
She didn’t answer. Zachary had succeeded in breaking free from his own family’s control.
“Three days, at the earliest. Where to now? I’ll take you.”
Gabrielle looked out the window. “To the Goldstein’s villa.”
Zachary’s hand twitched slightly, but he said nothing.
The car stopped in front of the Goldstein residence. Zachary turned to her with a grin. “Five–star service. Please don’t forget to leave a review.”
Gabrielle paused, suddenly realizing he was unlike any rich boy she’d
ever met.
Before she could think more, a maid from the Goldstein family had already opened the door.
As she stepped into the grand living room, the scene caught Gabrielle’s breath.
The ornate hall was heavy with tension.
Timothy was kneeling on the floor, face pale as a sheet.
His grandfather stood before him with a dark face. Gabrielle had seen him so angry before.

Chapter 9
“Gabrielle, welcome. Let me get done with this brat.”
Timothy looked up at her like a drowning man grabbing at a lifeline “Gabrielle…”
“Shut up! After what you did to her, you still dare call her name?” The old man snapped, raising the family cane again.
Gabrielle stood at the doorway like an outsider.
“I was wrong. I let Gabrielle down.” Timothy’s voice trembled.
“You go cut that woman Cecilia off right now! Or I’ll make her disappear for good!”
“O–okay…” Timothy lowered his head, voice barely audible.
“What did our Gabrielle ever do to deserve this? How did you even meet that woman?”
Jazlene Goldstein now joined the scolding.
By now, Timothy’s eyes had lost all life. His voice was faint.
“We met at a bar. She was…” he paused, “a dancer.”
The air seemed to freeze. Each word sliced through Gabrielle’s pride like a blade.
So she’d lost to a dancer. For ten years.
She thought she no longer cared. But she still couldn’t help asking, “Why?”
“She was passionate, sexy, and bold…”
Timothy finally looked up, regret and pleading in his eyes. “Gabrielle clearly said no to premarital sex. That night I was drunk, and…”

Chapter 9
That moment broke something in Gabrielle. So that was all it took for him to cheat?
“I loved Gabrielle, but after being with Cecilia… I wavered. Mom, since Gabrielle doesn’t want to marry me, maybe we should call it off.”
Jazlene suddenly shrieked.
“Call it off? Are you crazy?! If you don’t marry Gabrielle, who? Are you bringing that bar dancer into the Goldstein family? What a disgrace!”
Emmitt glared icily. “That kind of woman will never become my daughter–in–law.”
Listening to all of this, Gabrielle felt a surge of nausea.
They didn’t care about her feelings or Timothy’s betrayal. It didn’t look good. That was what they cared about. That ridiculous family pride.
“I have a proposal,” Gabrielle said clearly, cutting through the tension. Everyone turned to look at her.
