Timothy was silent for a moment, his fingers unconsciously clutching the bedsheet.

“She’s just a friend of a friend. She works as my assistant now. There’s no need to press charges.”

“You once told me… You’d never lie to me.”

Gabrielle stared at him, hoping for the truth, but she was disappointed yet again.

His silence chilled her to the bone.

Gabrielle pulled out her phone, opened Cecilia’s WhatsApp profile, and held it in front of his face.

“Then explain the coincidence?”

She looked into Timothy’s eyes. His face turned ghostly pale.

“Gabrielle, let me explain!”

“Save it, Timothy. I already know everything about you and Cecilia. I saw it with my own eyes in the underground garage. Let’s just end this.”

“You donated blood for me after my accident. Now I’ve returned the favor. We’re even,”

Without waiting for more excuses, she left the room.

Outside, the cold wind stung Gabrielle’s cheeks.

Her phone vibrated in her pocket. Timothy was calling.

She rejected the call without hesitation. Tears blurred her vision.

Twenty years of love came to an end.

After rejecting his call twenty–two times, Gabrielle’s fingers trembled as she dialed Cecilia’s number.

Cecilia answered quickly, her tone cautious.

“I broke up with Timothy,” Gabrielle said calmly as if talking about the weather.

There was a pause.

“What?” Cecilia’s voice quivered.

“I won’t ask about your little secret anymore.” Gabrielle leaned against the wall. She could barely stand on her own.

“I know he only has eyes for you. I’m stepping away. I hope you two get married soon.”

Cecilia’s tone suddenly changed. “You really broke up with him?”

The joy in her voice stabbed Gabrielle like a knife.

“Yes.” Gabrielle bit her lip until it nearly bled. “I’ve loved him for twenty years. But it was all one–sided. If he truly loved me, there’d never have been you.”

“You think breaking up is as simple as saying it?” Cecilia’s voice dripped with bitter sarcasm.

Gabrielle’s heart skipped a beat. Her fingers tightened around her phone.

“What do you mean?” she tried to stay calm, but her trembling voice betrayed her unease.

“We’re all just puppets in the end.” Cecilia laughed bitterly as if mocking Gabrielle’s ignorance.

“Whether you like it or not, you will marry Timothy Goldstein, unless you’re dead.”

Her words pierced Gabrielle’s heart like a knife.

“No way. My father already agreed to let me go to Tharion,” Gabrielle said, her voice shaking.

“We’re not the same, Cecilia!” she tried to argue.

“What makes you think we’re different?” Cecilia sneered.

Suddenly, it started to rain. People around them scattered, shielding their heads.
