Chapter 6
“Mr. Charlotte, did we receive any notification about an aircraft landing at our company today?” Sebastian’s voice carried a sudden edge of unease.
Charlotte hesitated, her expression tightening with concern. “No, I haven’t heard anything about that,” she replied, her tone uneasy.
Her face paled noticeably, as if a shadow had passed over her. She took a cautious step forward, about to inquire further when the aircraft doors abruptly swung open. A swarm of people poured out, moving swiftly and purposefully.
“Which one of you is Expert Anders?” a commanding voice called out.
I stepped forward without hesitation. The man’s gaze locked onto me, and he spoke loudly, “We’ve been ordered to showcase Expert Anders’ abilities. Also, the chief just gave new instructions—who was it that promised to lend him some guts over the phone? I’m here to collect!”
I glanced at Charlotte with a cold, steady smile. The color drained from her face instantly, leaving her ghostly pale. Without thinking, she slipped behind Sebastian, seeking protection.
“Mr. Shaw, please, save me!” she whispered, trembling.
Sebastian inhaled deeply, gathering his composure, then stepped forward with measured calm. “There must be some misunderstanding,” he said firmly. “I’m Sebastian Shaw of the Shaw Group. Our family company is worth billions. My wife, Vivian Ward, is the eldest daughter of the Ward family—one of New York’s four major dynasties.”
The man nodded slightly, pulling out a notebook and jotting down every name with deliberate care.
“Shaw Group and the Ward family from New York. Any other powerful allies?” he asked, his voice steady but probing.
Sebastian’s panic grew with every passing second. Something was terribly wrong. His eyes locked onto mine, his voice rough and strained. “Jenna Anders, what exactly have you been doing these past six years?”
I lifted my gaze to the towering Shaw Group building, its glass facade gleaming coldly in the afternoon light. A faint, almost mocking smile tugged at the corners of my lips.
“Sebastian,” I said softly, “did you really believe that after I left, you built this empire all on your own, relying solely on your own strength?”
His pupils narrowed sharply, a flicker of realization crossing his face.
Suddenly, a memory surfaced—an uncanny coincidence. The first benefactor who had appeared in his life had come right after Jenna Anders had disappeared from the scene.
