Before Wiona could even react, Conrad had already scooped her up and carried her down the stairs.
“Make sure Alice calms down.” Conrad tossed the words over his shoulder to Libby and Remy, then walked away without looking back.
Libby and Remy knew what to do. They hurried over to Alice, who was still frozen in shock from what had just happened.
“Miss, you need to behave now. Ms. Morgan isn’t going anywhere,” Libby said gently.
“Yeah, please calm down anymore. Or Ms. Morgan might have to leave and go home,” Remy added, trying to sound as reassuring as possible.
Alice’s eyes were wide and watery. Her voice trembled as she asked, “Did I push Wiona?”
Remy looked at Libby, unsure of what to say, but Libby jumped in without missing a beat. “You did, but it wasn’t on purpose. You just wanted Ms. Morgan to hold your hand. You didn’t mean any harm.”
“Why don’t you apologize to her tonight? I know she’ll forgive you,” Libby continued, smiling.
Alice’s cheeks flushed, and she lowered her head, suddenly very obedient. “Okay.”
Remy looked stunned. “She’s not even jealous that Mr. Sullivan held Ms. Morgan?”
Libby grinned. “Honestly, I didn’t see that coming.”
Meanwhile, Wiona found herself in a guest room that was even bigger than her old bedroom at the Salisbury family estate. Conrad stood to one side, silent, while a medical team that was originally there for Alice gave Wiona a thorough checkup.
“Ms. Morgan is a little shaken, but the babies are healthy. Everything looks fine,” one of the doctors reported.
Conrad’s eyes stayed glued to her stomach, his heart pounding so loudly he was sure everyone could hear it. The babies… they’re okay?
