“Don’t even start. This set is gonna be mine. I’m not letting anyone take it from me.”
“Please, just let me have it this time. I’ve never managed to get one of her pieces, not even once.”
Vivian was a legend in the design world, because her jewelry was stunning and unique, and she was also a prodigy. She hit it big at sixteen, winning gold at an international competition. The news exploded in the local fashion scene. Everyone was obsessed, not only with her age, but because she had never shown her face. Even now, she was still an enigma, never appearing in public.
That win made her famous overnight, and she ended up studying under the famous designer Cassian himself. Every single one of her designs was a showstopper, so her work only got more popular and harder to get. She never mass-produced anything, so owning a full set was a serious flex and almost impossible.
She’d been quiet for over a year. People started whispering that maybe she’d run out of ideas, or maybe she’d quit for good. No one expected her comeback to hit as hard as it did.
Wiona had no idea how wild things were online. She hadn’t gone back to the Salisbury estate tonight. Instead, she was on the phone, trying to calm down Grandma Grace.
“Grandma, I might need a few more days before I move back. I just have a lot to sort out, I swear… I’m not lying.”
“Yes, okay… I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
“I haven’t forgotten your birthday. I promise I’ll be home before then, alright?”
“I’ve even got a surprise for you.”
She finally hung up, only to see a text from Jace.
[Wiona, something came up last minute. Dinner’s off. Don’t wait for me. We can talk at the estate tomorrow.]
Wiona deleted his message without a second thought.
She hadn’t even planned on showing up for dinner anyway. Deep down, she knew it would end the same way it always did. She’d wait for him, hours would pass, and she’d get a message like this at nearly eleven at night.
With a bitter little laugh, Wiona muttered to herself, “That’s it. I’m done waiting for you.”
Meanwhile, over at Hawthorne Hall, the Sullivan family estate, Remy was standing in the study, giving Conrad the rundown on what she’d learned from Wiona.
“Mr. Sullivan, Mrs. Salisbury told me herself… She saw W right after marrying into the Salisbury family last year.
“He’s a big guy, rough around the edges, probably in his thirties.
“He visited the Salisbury estate in secret, just to see the old lady. Sounds like they made some kind of deal. W took the money and retired. He’s gone from Stonehill.
“From what Mrs. Salisbury said, W isn’t coming back. He’s not showing his face again… and he’s definitely not returning to Stonehill.”
