But the truth was written all over her face, pale as ash.
Jace had to bite down on his anger and restlessness, with a sharp edge of panic now that Wiona had found out.
“So you knew all along.”
It all started to make sense. “You’ve just been waiting for this day, haven’t you?”
Wiona didn’t even bother to hide it. “Yep.”
“I’ve known for a while about you and Kellen. I even knew about your secret meeting in the rose garden during my grandmother’s birthday.”
“So let’s drop the act, okay?”
“A divorce is the only way you two can leave with any dignity. Otherwise, it just gets ugly for everyone.”
Jace could feel the anger boiling over inside him.
If she’d known the whole time, why not just say it?
She’d been playing him, waiting for the Salisbury family to be at its lowest, thinking that was her best shot.
“Wiona, do you really want a divorce that badly?”
“You brought the divorce papers today, so this was your plan all along? Was it you who drugged Kellen?”
Well, when Jace wasn’t blinded by his feelings for Kellen, he wasn’t that dumb.
Wiona came right back at him. “Do you have any evidence I did it?”
“This is a hospital. If you didn’t want to do it, no one could have set you up.”
Jace knew he was on thin ice, and his face just kept getting darker. “Fine, so what if you caught us today?”
“Wiona, I’ve always loved Kellen. That never changed.”
“You’re the one who came between us. If you hadn’t used your tricks to force her away, and if you hadn’t used the Morgan family to push this marriage, do you really think I would have married you?”
“You know exactly how you ended up with this marriage.”
“I was never going to touch you.”
“I was planning to drag this out for your whole life.”
“You want a divorce? Forget it.”
“And don’t forget, you’re carrying my children, the Salisbury family’s blood.”
“If you want to leave the Salisbury family, it’s only over my dead body.”
Wiona had already seen this ugly side of him coming.
A man can act like you’re the only one in the world when he wants to. But when he drops the act, you finally see what a fool you’ve been.
She didn’t even feel angry anymore.
She just reached into her bag, pulled out another stack of documents, and tossed them in Jace’s face.
“If you want proof, go investigate for yourself.”
“I don’t care to prove my innocence. But I’m even less interested in watching a liar gloat.”
