Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 22

Jace had been there for a while already.

He sat in his car a short ways off, watching as Wiona stood alone beneath the glow of the streetlight. He had always known she was beautiful, that her cool, distant aura set her apart from everyone else. After they got married, Wiona’s real identity came out, and he’d seen her at her lowest and most fragile.

Whatever his true feelings, Jace had reached out to her when she needed it most. Since then, the icy shell she wore had thawed a little. With him, she was gentle and obedient, sweet and considerate. Jace knew what she wanted most in this world was a family she could count on, one that would never leave her behind. That was why she clung to him, why she treasured the twins growing in her belly.

Lately, though, she wasn’t being quite so obedient. She had snapped at him a few times, and she wasn’t as attached as she used to be. That irritation simmered inside Jace, a mix of restlessness and anger he couldn’t shake.

He’d smoked a pile of cigarettes but still didn’t get out of the car. He just let her stand there a little longer, thinking it would serve as a minor punishment.

Then a black van pulled up in front of Wiona, snapping him out of his thoughts.

The passenger window rolled down. Before she could see who it was, Korey leaned out with a smile. “Mrs. Salisbury, what a coincidence running into you.”

Wiona was surprised for a second but quickly regained her composure. “You work for Mr. Sullivan, right?”

The back window stayed closed. Wiona could feel someone’s eyes on her—sharp and direct, even through the tinted glass. It made her skin prickle with nerves.

That stare could only belong to Conrad, the father of her children, the man she’d been trying so hard to avoid.

Korey shot a look at the back seat and spoke politely. “Mrs. Salisbury, our boss said he was too busy the other day to accept your transfer.

“And it looks like you blocked him afterward.

“He tried to get in touch about it but couldn’t reach you.

“He wants to know how you want to handle it. He figures you’re not the type to skip out on a debt.”

Wiona felt her face burn. She’d sent the money and immediately blocked Conrad’s number, never thinking he might not accept it. By the time the money bounced back into her account in the middle of the night, she was too embarrassed to reach out to him again and just pretended nothing had happened.

She never expected to run into them like this. Now she was being accused of dodging a debt and called out to her face. It was mortifying.

She blushed, flustered. “I… I’m sorry. It must have been a mistake.”

How was she supposed to know that the head of the richest family in Stonehill would chase her over a thousand bucks? That kind of money wouldn’t even buy him a cufflink. Maybe the rich people just love to be thrifty.

Still, she managed to sound sincere. “It’s my fault. I promise I’ll make it right with Mr. Sullivan.”

Conrad, sounding impatient, called out from the back, “Let’s go.”

Korey nodded and told the driver to head into Rosewood Garden.

They were going to Rosewood Garden too.
