“Ms. Morgan, how about having lunch with me?” Conrad asked, his tone light but his eyes fixed on her. “Consider it a way to thank me.”
Wiona just stared at him. Did he really ask for thanks so shamelessly?
Noticing she wasn’t exactly thrilled, Conrad quickly added, “It’s also a good chance for us to talk about the custody agreement.”
That got her attention. “Alright,” she agreed. “I’ll choose the place. There’s a little hidden restaurant I used to love. It’s kind of a secret spot.”
Conrad’s lips curled into a slight smile. Of course he’d say yes if she was inviting him to her old favorite. “I’m looking forward to our first date, Ms. Morgan.”
A warm flush crept up Wiona’s cheeks. A date? Was this really a date?
The next day, Wiona arrived at the restaurant a full thirty minutes early. Tim and Jim waited outside, keeping watch. She picked a cozy booth with a perfect view of the city skyline and the busy street below. After texting Conrad to let him know she was already there, she got up and headed to the restroom.
Ever since she got pregnant, her trips to the bathroom had only increased. She couldn’t help it, and she knew it would get even worse as time went on.
On her way back to the table, just as she was thinking about what to order, she ran straight into someone she never expected to see.
“Wiona. I knew that was you.” Kyle’s hand grabbed her wrist, his expression hard and cold. “So, you’ve blocked me again. And this time, you blocked Mom and Dad too. What are you trying to do, cut us off for good?”
Wiona’s shock only lasted a second before she yanked her hand, glaring at him. “It’s none of your business. Let go.”
