Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 291

The sound of the slap echoed in the room, leaving both Kyle and Madison frozen in shock. Kyle’s hand dropped from Madison’s arm. The second she was free, Madison scrambled to the edge of the bed, coughing so hard she nearly started gagging. Wiona rushed to her side, wrapping her up in a fierce hug, rubbing her back. “It’s okay. It’s over now. I won’t let him hurt you again.”

Kyle stared at Wiona, a slow, almost twisted smile forming. He’d thought she ran off. He never expected her to come back. But here she was. For a moment, the wild anger in his eyes faded. He watched Wiona closely, his voice low, every word sharp and mocking. “Very impressive, Wiona. You’re getting braver by the day, aren’t you? You’ve got the guts to stand up to me over and over. You even dared to hit me. Wonderful. I really did teach you well.”

He clenched his jaw, glaring at her. “You always know how to make me the angriest. I’ve spoiled you since you were a kid. Let you have whatever you wanted. Guess that’s why you think I’d never actually lay a hand on you.”

He reached up to touch the cheek she’d slapped, a dangerous gleam in his eyes. He wanted nothing more than to pick her up, drag her out of the room, and give her a lesson she’d never forget. But then he glanced at her stomach. He couldn’t risk hurting her, not now. So he just clenched his fists until his knuckles went white, veins bulging, but he still couldn’t bring himself to hurt her.

Wiona could see how hard he was working to keep his temper in check. She didn’t say anything more to provoke him. She knew when to push and when to back off. Right now, in the Morgan house, she was at a disadvantage. She would have to wait for her chance.

“You’re right. You taught me everything I know,” she said quietly. “Now, will you please leave?”

The words had barely left her mouth when the lights flickered, once, twice, then the whole house came back to life. The power was on again.

Kyle didn’t need an explanation. He’d already noticed she and Madison had switched places, and now he knew the blackout was no accident. She must have planned to use the darkness to escape. But for some reason, she stayed. Smart move. If she’d run, he would have made sure she never got the chance again.

With a glare, Kyle stormed out and slammed the door.

The second he was gone, Madison grabbed Wiona’s arm, her face pale and anxious. “Why did you come back? You should have run while you had the chance! Are you trying to get yourself?”

She’d been sure Wiona had escaped. She never imagined her coming back. Did that mean everything she’d just suffered was for nothing?

Wiona looked down at the angry red marks around Madison’s neck, and her eyes filled with tears. “What was I supposed to do? Let him strangle you? I couldn’t just think of myself.”

She could have left. But she’d knocked over a vase on her way out, and she knew Kyle would figure out what happened. She knew exactly what kind of person Kyle was—controlling, obsessive. Even when she was a kid, he’d chosen what she could wear to school. He couldn’t stand anything that slipped out of his grasp. Swapping places with Madison was like walking right into a fire. She remembered when the truth about her own identity came out. Kyle couldn’t handle it. That was why he’d run off to another country, to avoid dealing with it.
