Donna pressed her hand to her cheek, her skin still stinging, and finally realized things were getting out of control. “Okay, okay, be good, Alice…” Her voice was shaky, but she didn’t dare try to comfort Alice any closer. Instead, she grabbed her phone and called Phil right away. “Hello? Please, have Ms. Morgan come back as soon as possible. Miss Alice is upset, and only Ms. Morgan can calm her down.”

Phil hesitated, sounding unsure. “Uh…”

Remy, unimpressed with the whole scene, let out a quiet huff and quickly went to Alice’s side. She gently took Alice’s hand. “It’s alright, miss. I’ll take you to Wiona, okay? Let’s go.” She called out to the others, “Bring her hat and scarf, the ones we just took off. And someone call for a car.”

Remy didn’t bother with Donna at all. She just led Alice out toward the entrance. After all, she was Alice’s private doctor, responsible for her treatment. She’d listen to Donna about small things, sure, but if it was anything that could affect Alice’s recovery, Donna had no say.

Phil remembered Remy’s instructions, so he didn’t mention Donna’s request. He just shook his head. “It’s nothing. Ms. Morgan, we’re here.”

Outside the main gate, Jace stood under a clear umbrella. His face was still bruised, and one arm was in a sling. Even so, he was dressed neatly, his hair carefully styled. He must have been waiting a long time, because when Wiona stepped out, he took a steadying breath before coming over.

“Wiona, you’re finally—”

She stepped back, putting space between them. “Don’t come any closer! What do you want?”

Her guarded look made something twist in Jace’s chest. “You won’t even let me see you now? We were married, remember. Is this really the life you want, living here with Conrad? Wiona, whatever you want, I’ll give it to you. But you’re carrying my children. How can you treat me like this, carrying my kids while another man protects you?”
