After ending the call, Isaac took his time slipping the black rubber gloves back onto his hands. He glanced down at Jean, who was still whimpering through her gag, desperate and struggling against the ropes holding her in place.

Isaac set his phone aside and reached out, grabbing her face so she had no choice but to look at him.

“Stop it already. You’re not getting out of this,” he said, voice flat. “You’re with me now, so you’ve got two choices. Tell the truth, all of it, or… you can go join your old boss underground.”

He leaned in closer, his eyes cold. “This is your last chance. Are you still hiding something from me?”

Jean shook her head frantically, tears running down her cheeks. It wasn’t convincing. Not to Isaac.

He drew back his fist and slammed it into her stomach. Jean gasped, pain twisting her face as she tried to double over, but the ropes kept her upright. All she could do was moan, the sound muffled.

A line of blood crept from her lips.

Isaac yanked the gag free, then slapped her across the face, hard enough that one of her teeth flew out. Jean’s scream rang out, and the chair toppled, crashing to the ground with Jean tangled and helpless.

Her voice shook as she cried out, “Isaac… you’re… you’re a monster…”

“I was loyal. I served your grandmother for years… How could you do this…?”

“And Bianca… she’s your sister… You locked her up… What did you do to her…?”

Isaac’s expression didn’t change. He kicked her, sharp and merciless.

“Look at you. Still running your mouth when you can’t even protect yourself. What, you think I won’t really kill you?”

He crouched beside her, grabbing a fistful of her gray hair, forcing her head back so she had to meet his eyes.

“Grandmother? Grace? She doesn’t deserve that title,” he spat. “I only played the perfect grandson for your little show. You all thought I’d really accept her?”

He laughed, the sound bitter. “If she hadn’t messed things up back then, do you think my mother would have ended up like that? You think I don’t know what she did?”

“Now she sees I’m all grown up, and Jace is a total disappointment, suddenly she wants to be nice to me. Too bad for her. It’s not her choice. It’s mine.”
