Behind his back? Seriously? What kind of relationship did they even have? Wiona was single, free to do as she pleased. Since when did she need to check in with Conrad Sullivan every time she left the house?
She didn’t bother voicing her frustration, but Conrad caught the look in her eyes. He answered anyway. “Of course. You’re carrying the future heirs of the Sullivan Group. Whether you want to marry me or not, we’re both responsible for the kids. If you take my babies to meet someone else, who knows what kind of trouble you could run into? Is the person safe? Can they be trusted? Naturally, I have the right to know. If you won’t even say who it is, how is that not going behind my back?”
Wiona gave a dry laugh, completely unbothered. She was determined to push his buttons. “Fine, you can see for yourself in a minute.”
Conrad clenched his jaw and leaned in closer until she could see her own reflection in his eyes. “Ms. Morgan, I’ll mess it up for you. I get jealous, you know.”
Wiona’s smile faded. He was way too close for comfort, close enough to make her nerves tingle. Thankfully, there was a divider between the front and back seats, so Lewis had no idea his boss was back here shamelessly flirting with a pregnant lady. If he had known, Lewis might’ve driven them into a streetlamp.
The tension was too much. Wiona could practically hear her heart pounding and she didn’t want him to notice. She quickly lifted her hand and shoved his face away. “Conrad, seriously, don’t get so close if you don’t have a reason.”
He chuckled, low and amused. “What’s up? Worried I’ll figure out you have a thing for me?”
Wiona flashed a polite, almost mocking smile. If only someone could sew this man’s mouth shut. He was insufferable, always arrogant and sharp-tongued. But she wouldn’t just let him win. “Actually, I’m worried your heartbeat is so loud it’ll distract me.”
Conrad’s eyes lit up, impressed. She was finally learning how to toss his words right back. “Then you should be prepared. Whenever I see you, I can’t help it. I’m going to be a distraction to you... always.”
Wiona stared at him, speechless. Arguing with someone this shameless was a losing game.
He noticed her silence, and the way her cheeks turned pink. She looked just like a girl who had never been teased before. When he tried to catch her eye again, she let out a tiny huff and turned to look out the window, pretending she didn’t care.
Conrad couldn’t help but laugh under his breath. “Relax, I’m just messing with you. Ms. Morgan, I hope you have a wonderful day.”
