He just… gave them all to her?
Wiona stared at her reflection and reached up to touch her own cheek. Tonight, she really did look beautiful.
Shelly could hardly contain herself. “Beautiful?” She thought, “Ms. Morgan has always been gorgeous. In that dress and with her makeup done, she looks absolutely breathtaking. Conrad is going to be completely knocked off his feet tonight.”
Shelly squeezed her hands, barely hiding her excitement. Her anticipation for the evening was almost more than she could handle.
“Ms. Morgan, come with me.”
Downstairs, the sound of an orchestra floated through the halls. But instead of leading Wiona down, Shelly guided her up to the third-floor terrace.
The moment the door opened, a rush of cold air made Wiona shiver. Shelly quickly wrapped a soft cashmere shawl around her shoulders. “Just a sec. It’s almost time. Are you ready?”
Wiona had no idea what Shelly was talking about. “Ready for what?” she asked, confused.
Shelly just grinned. “It’s almost time. Ten, nine, eight…”
Wiona glanced at the clock. It was almost seven. The sky outside was pitch black. Fresh snow still covered the trees and the lawns, making everything look magical. The music from the grand hall below drifted up, and every now and then, new guests arrived, voices echoing through the house.
As Shelly finished her countdown, a firework suddenly exploded in the sky. The bang was so loud it made Wiona jump. Colors burst across the night, lighting up Hawthorne Hall and everything around it. The bright sparks fell from the sky like a cascade of rainbows.
Then, all at once, a swarm of drones appeared above the house. They moved so quickly, shifting into the shape of a rose bouquet, then a sparkling diamond ring.
Everyone inside had already rushed outside. The garden was packed, nobody caring about the cold anymore. Heads tilted back, people gasped in awe, their faces bright with wonder.
The drones shifted again, this time forming a wedding veil and another diamond ring.
Wiona was still stunned when the drones began to move once more. Slowly, glowing letters formed in the air.
marry me, Wiona.
The moment she saw her name, Wiona’s mind went blank. She just stared, lost in the moment, as the words sparkled above her. Something inside her burst open, just like the fireworks…
Her heart was pounding. She heard footsteps behind her and turned around.
Conrad.
He wore a sharp suit, looking more serious and put-together than she’d ever seen him. The fabric hugged his broad shoulders and slim waist, showing off his athletic build. There was something different about him tonight—an air of quiet confidence, almost regal, that made him seem even more out of reach.
And that face. It was almost unfair how good-looking he was.
Wiona’s heart did a somersault. She took an involuntary step back.
