The instant Wiona saw the face in the photo, she went completely still. It felt like all the warmth drained from her body, leaving her cold and numb. She checked the image over and over, refusing to believe it, but there was no mistaking who it was. Minutes slipped by before she finally moved. Still clutching her phone, she walked straight out of her room and headed downstairs.
“Phil!” she called out, her voice sharp.
Phil was busy organizing the next day’s schedule but turned to her right away, polite and attentive. “Yes, Madam. How can I assist you?”
Wiona didn’t waste any time. “I need to see Peter. Right now. Can you call him for me, or should I just go find him myself?”
Phil’s eyes widened a little. She wanted to see a bodyguard this urgently? It was odd, but Phil kept his questions to himself. He picked up his walkie-talkie and quickly relayed her request to the security team.
“Please wait a moment, Madam. Peter will be here right away.”
Wiona just nodded, her face dark and unreadable. She sat down in the living room and waited, barely moving. Phil was still confused by her urgency but motioned for a servant to bring her a glass of warm milk before getting back to his work.
Meanwhile, up in Donna’s bedroom, chaos reigned. Donna had thrown things everywhere. Feathers, scraps of fabric, broken pieces of whatever she could get her hands on—her frustration was all over the floor. When she finally calmed down, she grabbed her phone and called Sophie.
“Ms. Clements, what’s going on with your plan?” Donna demanded, not bothering with pleasantries. “Wiona is staying at the Sullivan family estate longer and longer. She’s with Conrad every day. It’s just a matter of time before she gets her way. Aren’t you worried at all?”
Donna wanted to push Sophie, to make her anxious. She left out the part where Wiona and Conrad had already gotten their marriage license. If Sophie found out, she might just give up, and Donna’s scheming would have been for nothing.
But Sophie wasn’t stupid. She picked up on something off in Donna’s tone. “Is something wrong? Did something happen?”
