Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 394

“The place might not be as fancy as you two are used to,” someone joked.

Madison grinned. “Hey, I took Wiona to her first night market stall. Don’t underestimate us.”

Just as everyone was getting ready to head out, Wiona’s phone buzzed.

“Hello?” she answered, then glanced up at the group, a little apologetic. “It’s Conrad.”

“He wants to treat everyone to dinner.”

So much for the casual spot on the corner.

Instead, Conrad had reserved a private room at the city’s swankiest seafood restaurant. The price per head was enough to make anyone’s wallet sweat. Except for Wiona, everyone seemed a bit on edge. Owen, especially, kept trying to stand up, but Tina pushed him right back down each time.

“What are you doing? You’re off duty tonight. This is just friends hanging out.”

“Don’t embarrass me, okay?”

Owen leaned in, voice low. “But I’m working on the Sullivan family’s case. I should really keep my distance, you know? If anyone finds out, it’ll just cause problems for Mr. Sullivan and Ms. Morgan. People will talk, and it’ll get messy.”

Tina looked awkward, not sure what to say.

Conrad stood up, straightened his jacket, and spoke calmly. “Mr. Bishop, you don’t need to worry.”

“I actually have another engagement tonight.”

“Without me here, it’s just Wiona and Tina having dinner with friends. That shouldn’t break any rules, right?”

“Wiona, I’ll be next door if you need me.”

“Take care of your friends and enjoy dinner.”

With that, Conrad left the room, polite and composed.

Wiona didn’t seem bothered at all, but Tina clearly felt uneasy.

“Wiona, Mr. Sullivan is so thoughtful. I almost feel bad for making him leave. He really does have something else to do, right?”

Wiona smiled. “Don’t worry about him. Let’s just have a good time.”

“Anyway, should we open Jewel’s box?”

She changed the topic, which finally got Owen to settle back into his seat.

Everyone comes from different worlds, she thought to herself. Different rules, different lines you don’t cross. There’s no need to force anything.

Wiona understood what Conrad was doing. He just wanted her to eat somewhere safe and comfortable, and tonight, he’d given her a lot of respect in front of her friends. She made a note to herself to thank him properly later.

Madison, meanwhile, was only interested in the box. She took it over to Wiona and opened it. The smell of things that had been sealed away for twenty years drifted out, dusty and old. Everyone waved the air in front of their noses, trying to clear the musty smell.

Madison started poking through the pile and quickly found a photo.

“Wait, check this out. Isn’t that Jewel’s hand in the picture?”

Wiona took the photo, but her eyes went straight to the other hand in the shot.

It was a photo of two people holding hands. No faces, not even any clues about whether the hands belonged to a man or a woman. Still, it was in Jewel’s box, so it had to mean something.

Owen leaned in, putting his detective skills to work. “The hand on the left looks like a man’s.”

Wiona froze.
