Jeffrey’s face flushed with anger. “Mrs. Salisbury, could you show some respect?”
Wiona didn’t bother listening anymore. She turned and walked back to the private room where she’d met Tina, running everything over in her mind. So Jace and his mom had been acting weird these past couple of days because of the inheritance, but it wasn’t the one she’d thought it was. Turns out, Grandma Grace had some secret assets tucked away, and Jace’s family had just discovered them. That explained why their attitudes had changed so fast. People always showed their true colors when money was involved. Even Daniel, who always seemed so devoted, was secretly eyeing the assets his mother refused to reveal. That must have been why he let Alona use the study. If Grandma found out, she’d be crushed.
Tina finally tore her eyes away from the design sketches and came over, grinning. “Wiona, this jewelry set could be a national treasure, seriously. Are you really giving it to Kellen? And you’re okay with your husband spending a fortune on some old flame?”
Wiona smiled. “If you want even prettier designs, just say the word. What matters is the money, and that’s ours. Why wouldn’t I be okay with it?”
Tina relaxed, letting out a laugh. “You are right. We should just make a killing off him. Besides, if it wasn’t this stunning, how would you convince your husband to shell out fifty million? Actually, now that I see it, I think fifty million is too cheap. I’m raising the price.”
“Do whatever you want,” Wiona said, picking up her bag. “Just make sure the money ends up in my account.”
Tina gave her a thumbs up. “Leave it to me. I’ll let you know when it’s done.” She left, hugging the sketches like they were pure gold. Wiona stayed in the café until it got dark, then headed back to the old house with Molly.
Luckily, Jace had gotten busy again. He was out early and came home late for the next two days, so she didn’t have to see him at all.
Three days went by fast, and soon it was the day Jace had invited her to the art exhibition.

Sullivan Group’s headquarters, top floor. Conrad was sitting in his office, holding a courier envelope that had arrived a few days before. His secretary had misplaced it, and it had gotten wedged between some files on his desk, only to turn up today.
The young secretary was practically in tears, stammering that she’d just come back from maternity leave and her memory wasn’t what it used to be. She even offered to transfer to another department, which would basically be a demotion.
Conrad was cold, but he let it slide, mostly for Alex’s sake. “This time, I’ll let it go. But if it happens again, Alex will cover your salary and any losses to the company.”
