**Raindrops Kissing Silent Streets – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 36**
Renee turned her head, her gaze locking onto Jasper’s, a mix of determination and vulnerability in her eyes. “You know, whether it’s Genome Tech or the Spencer family, the crux of the matter lies in the integrity of the research results. At the end of the day, everything should hinge on the caliber of those findings. Wouldn’t you agree, Mr. Zeller?”
Jasper let out a light chuckle, a sound that danced in the air between them. “You’re quite self-assured, aren’t you?”
A smile crept onto Renee’s lips, a flicker of pride igniting within her. “Thank you for the compliment,” she replied, her tone light yet laced with an undercurrent of sincerity.
However, before she could savor the moment, Jasper swiftly retorted, “I bet you were just as confident when you married your husband.”
Sitting in the front seat, Luke had just taken a sip of water when Jasper’s words pierced through the air, causing him to choke unexpectedly.
‘Damn, the Boss’s tongue is sharper than a blade!’ he thought, stifling a laugh that bubbled up within him. Instead, he resorted to an awkward fit of coughing, each spasm a struggle against the urge to burst out in laughter. It felt like a form of torture to suppress the amusement building inside him.
Renee, on the other hand, was a master at maintaining her composure around others, but Jasper had a way of unraveling her defenses. That man wielded words like daggers, and in that moment, she felt a wave of defeat wash over her. With her lips pressed into a thin line, she chose silence.
Because deep down, he was right.
When she had married Adam, she had been brimming with confidence, certain that he loved her more than anyone else ever could, convinced that their love would endure the test of time. She had envisioned a future where they would grow old together, hand in hand. Now, that vision felt like a cruel twist of fate, a bitter joke played at her expense.
With a weary sigh, Renee rolled her eyes and turned her back, unwilling to engage any further.
As the group arrived at the main building, they quickly freshened up, changed into more suitable attire, and made their way to the entertainment center, a welcome distraction from the tension that lingered.
