ucian’s eyes narrowed. “I need to take you to the pack doctor, now. Confirm this pregnancy.”
Maya’s smile faltered for a moment before she regained her composure. “We literally just came back from the pack doctor. He confirmed I’m carrying your pup.”
Lucian’s grip on her wrist tightened. “I need a second opinion. I don’t believe anything that comes out of your mouth.”
Maya laughed, her eyes glinting with amusement. “You don’t trust me? After all we’ve been through?”
She turned to Katie. Her eyes were malicious. “Can you believe him? You know the truth, right? You saw those photos I sent you”
Katie’s expression remained neutral, but her eyes flashed with anger. “If you don’t have anything to hide, Maya, then let’s all go to the hospital right now.”
Cora stepped forward, shaking her head.
“It’s just a waste of time. The pack doctor’s word is enough.”
Lucian’s jaw clenched. “I’m finishing my wedding first. Then we’ll go to the hospital.”
Cora’s face turned red with rage. “There’s no way you’re going to continue with this wedding. You need to divorce Katie and get married to Maya. She’s carrying the Blue Moon pack’s heir.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” Katie said, her voice firm. “This wedding is happening, no matter wha you say.”
Cora sneered. “You’re not going to stand in the way of your husband’s destiny. Maya’s child is the key to our pack’s future.”
Lucian’s eyes locked onto Maya’s, his gaze piercing. “We’ll see about that.”
After the wedding, everyone went to the hospital.
Lucian barked at the pack doctor. “Check her again. Now. In front of everyone. I want to know i she’s actually pregnant.”
The doctor’s eyes darted nervously around the crowd before he nodded. “Right away, Alpha.”
Katie bit her nails, her anxiety spiking. What if Maya was truly pregnant?
Would Lucian abandon her for this new development?
She hadn’t even gotten the chance to tell him about her own pregnancy.
The doctor’s examination seemed to drag on forever.
Finally, he emerged with a solemn expression, holding up an ultrasound image.
“It’s confirmed,” he said. “Maya is indeed two weeks pregnant.”
Lucian’s face contorted in shock.
Katie’s heart shattered into a million pieces. Lucian had lied to her.
About Maya. About everything.
Maya’s smirk was like a slap in the face. “You know now that I didn’t lie from the beginning. Your mate was with me. He lied about me drugging him. He actually had the time of his life that
night.”
Lucian’s eyes blazed with fury as he grabbed Maya’s arm roughly. “Shut the hell up! I know you’re lying, and I’m going to get to the root of this.”
Cora rushed forward, prying Lucian’s fingers from Maya’s arm. “Remember, she’s carrying your pup! You have to be gentle with her.”
Lucian’s gaze fell upon Katie, his eyes pleading. “Katie, please—”
But Katie shook her head, backing away. “I need time to process this.”
Lucian’s face crumpled. “You don’t believe me?”
Katie’s smile was a sad, tired thing. “I want to. But the evidence is clear. The doctor’s been with the pack for years; he’s trustworthy.”
He was the same doctor that confirmed her being pregnant.
What ulterior motive did he have to be on Maya’s side?
Lucian’s voice was desperate. “There has to be an explanation. Don’t lose faith in me, Katie.”
She sighed, feeling the weight of exhaustion. Why did drama with men have to surround her life ike this?
She just needed a break.
I’ll talk to you later,” she said, turning away. “Don’t follow me.”
At home, Katie’s thoughts turned to packing her bags.
She needed to clear her head, get some space. Even if it was just for a few days.
As she gathered her things, the door burst open, and Maya strode in, Cora at her heels.
You’re going somewhere?” Cora’s voice was sharp as a knife.
Katie glanced at them. “Why do you have a problem with me leaving? You clearly just wanted me out of Lucian’s life.”
Maya’s smile was condescending. “Thank the goddess you finally realized your place. You neve it in. How can you, a divorcee with two dead kids, want a spot as Luna and Lucian’s mate?” Katie’s anger flared at the mention of her lost children. “You better don’t repeat that. Else you‘ be surprised at how I’d have to deal with you.”
Maya’s sarcasm was biting. “Oh, I’m shaking in my boots.”
Cora stepped in. “You can’t threaten my daughter–in–law in front of me. I won’t let you touch a strand of hair on her head. How about you go make us some food? We’re famished.”
Katie’s laughter was incredulous. “You both are being delusional. To hell with you!”
Cora’s face turned red with shock.
Katie had never spoken back to her like that before.
