Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 107

The two of them didn’t even notice her. They just headed straight for the booth right next to hers.

Emmy quickly looked away and focused back on James, who was sitting across from her.

It was the same shirt, but on James, it was impossible to hide that wild, masculine energy—every muscle in his arms seemed to say he belonged anywhere he wanted. On Dean, though, it looked awkward, like he was trying to pull off a laid-back style that just didn’t fit, more like an expensive knockoff than the real thing.

From the next booth, Evelina’s voice piped up, full of admiration. “Dean, I didn’t know you could look so good in casual clothes, too.”

Dean’s voice was cool. “She’s got good taste. Maybe you should learn from her. When we get home, you can swap out everything in my closet.”

Evelina’s laugh stalled for half a second, then she put on her best pout. “But my salary’s so low. I’m not like Emmy… Her dad gives her whatever she wants, she can buy anything.”

Dean seemed to realize something, and pulled out a black card, handing it to Evelina. “Here. Use this for whatever you want.”

But Emmy wasn’t listening. Her attention was fixed on what was happening behind her.

She didn’t even notice that James had stopped smiling, his eyes turning cold.

Without warning, the menu slid in front of her.

James’s fingers—long and defined—tapped right at the top, on “Baked Australian Lobster with Black Truffle.”

The price was enough to make anyone’s eyes water.

Emmy’s eyes went wide for a second.

That one dish probably cost more than what he made in months.

She met his gaze, saw the hint of annoyance there, and suddenly got it.

“Okay,” she said, and handed the menu to the waiter. “We’ll have that, thanks.”

She was the one who said she’d treat him. If it had to be expensive, so be it.

But after ordering, the air at the table got even heavier.

“Not going to say hi?” James asked suddenly.

Emmy’s heart skipped. She looked away fast, trying to sound casual. “Don’t know them.”

James didn’t push, but his face got even darker.

“Emmy, since I turned eighteen, every single piece of clothing I own, even my boxers, you picked them out.”

“And just the other day, you went to the store and got my size. This shirt? You bought it for me.”

He shot a look at James, who still hadn’t said a word, and sneered. “Now that I’ve pointed it out, you’re too embarrassed to admit it, so you just picked another size and gave it to this freeloader?”

He practically spat out the word “freeloader,” staring James down. “Does he know all this?”

Emmy’s hands curled into fists so tight her nails dug into her palms. She couldn’t believe Dean could be this shameless.

She turned to James, desperate. “Don’t listen to him! I bought this shirt for you, and only you!”

Then she glared at Dean. “Are you crazy? You have a girlfriend. Did you even think about how she’d feel, listening to you say all this?”

Dean just laughed, cold and careless, pulling Evelina close as she stood there pale and silent. “She’s not as petty as you. What, hit a nerve? Couldn’t move on, so you grabbed some random guy just to fill the void? Emmy, honestly, you’re just making yourself look worse.”

Emmy was so angry she could barely speak. Her fists trembled, nails biting deep.

Just as she thought she might explode, James—who’d been silent this whole time—finally spoke.
