Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 137

Emmy was instantly at a loss for words.

That morning, James had told her to jog to work, but she’d quietly slipped out half an hour early and driven instead.

She let out a frustrated sigh. “It’s way too hot out. If I run to the office, I’ll be totally soaked.”

James didn’t miss a beat. “You could’ve packed a change of clothes.”

Emmy pushed back, “There’s nowhere to shower at the office. I’d still be gross and sweaty.”

“The fire station has showers,” James replied flatly.

Emmy gaped at him, out of arguments.

Finally, she just threw her hands up. “Whatever. I just don’t want to run to work, okay?”

The room fell silent and stayed that way for a long moment.

Eventually, she peeked up and asked, “Are you mad at me?”

“It’s your body, not mine. Why would I care?”

His tone was so cool and sarcastic, Emmy could practically feel the chill. Yeah, he was definitely mad.

Suddenly she heard the rustle of blankets. Emmy turned her head, heart pounding.

In the faint moonlight, she saw his tall figure get up from the bed and walk toward her.

She panicked, clutching the thin blanket closer. “What are you doing? We’re just married on paper, remember? Are you trying to break the rules?”

He just said, “You can have the bed. I’m heading out.”

Emmy stared, stunned.

He didn’t even hesitate as he walked straight for the door. Worried, she scrambled up from the sofa.

“It’s so late. Where are you even going? If my mom finds out you left in the middle of the night, she’s totally going to blame me!”

But he just pulled open the door.

In a panic, Emmy blurted, “Don’t go! I’ll do the run, okay?”

James, meanwhile, looked completely relaxed in a simple white T-shirt and shorts, sipping his soup like he owned the place.

Even in a room full of guys, he stood out—ridiculously good-looking, impossible to ignore.

A couple of her older cousins were already huddled together, sneaking dreamy glances his way.

Emmy shot Pattie a little smirk, lifting her chin with a hint of pride. “Yeah.”

Pattie’s eyes went huge. She leaned in, whispering, “So… how wild was it? Is that why you’re coming down so late? He looks like the type who could go all night—did he, like, go seven times or something?”

Emmy nearly choked.

She hadn’t expected her cousin to be so… direct.

But she kept a straight face and lied smoothly, “Oh, more than that. I lost track. I was so exhausted, I just passed out.”

Inside, Emmy felt a surge of satisfaction.

No way was she ever letting James lose out—even when it came to rumors like this.
