Emmy lounged back against her headboard, shifting to get comfortable.
“Mr. Carter, did you forget something? Sure, I’m technically on Starlight Corporation’s board, but they fired me ages ago. The Dome project belongs to Rory now, not to some outsider like me.”
She didn’t wait for a response—just hung up and tossed her phone to the side, a cold smile on her lips.
Evelina was out of the picture, but didn’t she still have her golden girl Rory running the show? So why was Juan skipping over Rory to call her? What was he plotting this time?
For the next few days, Emmy didn’t bother going back to Starlight Corporation. Instead, she dropped by Forward Technology.
The second she walked in, the place was buzzing with energy.
“Good morning, Ms. Lincoln!”
“Director, hello!”
Every face lit up when they saw her. Ever since everyone found out she’d scored Starlight Corporation shares and landed a seat on their board, morale had skyrocketed. The team had even finished their partnership with Vista Tech ahead of schedule.
Sure, the project wasn’t huge—the profit was less than half of what Emmy had spent on a necklace for Vista Corporation’s director’s wife. But that win brought in a new project worth several times more.
Emmy stood in the center of the office, handing out thick envelopes of bonus cash to each team member herself.
“Great job, everyone. Let’s keep the momentum going.”
“Thank you, Ms. Lincoln!”
The cheers were deafening.
Then, a young programmer worked up the nerve to ask what everyone was thinking.
“Ms. Lincoln, are you going back to Starlight Corporation? Does that mean Forward Technology will get a new director?”
The whole room went silent.
Emmy raised an eyebrow, glancing over at his nervous face, a teasing smile tugging at her lips.
“Oh? Already hoping for a new director?”
He turned red, waving his hands.
“No, no, not at all! We just want you to stay forever, Ms. Lincoln!”
“That’s right! We’re sticking with you!”
Everyone chimed in at once, the energy bouncing right back.
Emmy grinned, her smile growing warmer. “Relax. I built Forward Technology from scratch. Even if I ever do go back to Starlight, Forward will always be my baby.”
The office erupted in cheers even louder than before.
He straightened like a rookie in a job interview.
“Yes! I’m Danny, twenty-five, three years’ experience, business management from Capital University—” He rattled off a full introduction before he could stop himself.
Emmy laughed out loud, seeing how nervous and red he was.
“No need to be so nervous. I’ve seen how hard you’ve worked.”
Danny’s heart was pounding.
She tapped her fingers on the desk, then changed her tone.
“Stick with me.”
“Three months’ probation. If you keep it up, I’ll make you my executive assistant.”
Danny froze, totally stunned.
Executive assistant?
He bowed deeply, voice cracking with excitement.
“Thank you, Ms. Lincoln! I’ll do my absolute best—I won’t let you down!”
