Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 276

Ding.

The elevator doors slid open on the first floor, right in the middle of the after-work rush. People flowed through the lobby, everyone in a hurry to get home.

But as soon as he stepped out—tall, straight-backed, and radiating authority—the whole room seemed to freeze. For a split second, it felt like even the air itself stopped moving.

Then came the wave of hushed gasps.

“Oh my god, that’s Mr. Nelson!”

“No way. I’ve been at Nelson Corporation for three years and this is the first time I’ve seen him in person!”

“Shut up, my legs are shaking so bad I can barely stand…”

“That’s weird, isn’t it? Mr. Nelson is always so mysterious. Why would he be walking through the lobby right now?”

The chatter died instantly.

Everyone watched as the legendary Mr. Nelson walked straight to the lounge area. He stopped right next to a woman who was sound asleep on the couch.

The tension in the air was almost electric.

James paused for a couple of seconds, then calmly undid his suit jacket, slipped it off, and draped it carefully over her shoulders.

Then, to everyone’s shock, he sat down on the couch across from her, settling in like he wasn’t in a rush to go anywhere.

The crowd lost it.

People clapped their hands over their mouths, trying not to scream. Excited whispers bounced around the lobby.

“Who is she?!”

“She must be someone insanely special. Mr. Nelson himself came down to meet her… and put his jacket on her! Is she the legendary Mrs. Nelson? The one everyone’s always talking about?”

“It has to be! No one else would get that kind of treatment!”

“Oh my god, this is like a real-life romance drama—my heart can’t take it!”

Someone couldn’t help but sneak a photo, but before they could even lower their phone, a group of security guards appeared out of nowhere.

“Excuse me, sir, please delete that picture.”

“And everyone, the workday’s over. Please leave the building now.”

That was all the confirmation anyone needed. The crowd left, faces lit up with excitement, each person sneaking one last look as they headed out the door.

She shook out her arm until the numbness faded, then picked up his jacket.

Facing him in just her thin white shirt, Emmy suddenly felt awkward and a little shy.

“Thank you, Mr. Nelson. I’ll get your jacket cleaned and bring it back.”

She grabbed her bag and was about to leave when his voice stopped her.

“Emmy, didn’t you come here to see me?”

She froze, then turned back. Even from a few steps away, his presence was overwhelming, making her nerves jump.

She took a shaky breath. “Mr. Nelson, about last night—my husband didn’t mean to offend you. I wanted to apologize for him. And… I was hoping you could just let it go. Pretend he doesn’t exist, okay?”

That way, James wouldn’t use his power to get revenge on her husband.

James’s lips tightened.

Even now, when she was asking for mercy, it was for her husband’s sake, not her own.

He was quiet for a moment, then asked, his voice low and steady, “Do you really love him that much?”
