Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 305

The elevator doors slid shut.

The space was so small it felt like there was barely enough air for the two of them. Emmy and James stared at each other, neither sure what to say. Awkward didn’t even begin to cover it.

They both blurted out at once.

“Are you still feeling sick?”

“What are you doing here?”

Their words crashed together, and then it went silent again.

Emmy was pretty sure she knew who to blame—Abriella and her inability to keep secrets. Shifting a little, she said, “I’m fine now.”

James’s dark eyes locked onto her, intense as ever. His voice was low and tight. “Don’t drink again unless I’m with you. Ever.”

She answered before she could stop herself. “I was just in a good mood last night. That’s all. I barely drank.”

His eyebrows pulled together in a deep frown.

In a good mood?

He’d spent all of yesterday in a funk after she stormed out. Meanwhile, she had been celebrating? Did anything he said even matter to her? Did she care at all?

The elevator chimed and the doors slid open on the nineteenth floor.

James didn’t move. Emmy reached out for the close button on instinct, but then James strode out without looking back.

“Come here. I want to show you something,” he tossed over his shoulder.

The words made no sense, but Emmy, confused and more than a little curious, hurried after him.

The hallway outside was wide and bright. At the end, two apartment doors stood open. Two movers were bringing in a gigantic bird of paradise plant from another elevator. As soon as they saw James, they paused and greeted him.

“Mr. Nelson, good afternoon.”

Emmy was totally lost.

A crazy thought flashed through her mind and she stared at James’s broad back, almost afraid to believe it. She hurried inside after him.

The moment she walked in, she was floored.

She hadn’t even noticed he’d blocked Dean? Did that mean Dean didn’t matter to her at all?

Whatever frustration he’d been holding onto vanished instantly. He stepped forward, then suddenly leaned down.

Before Emmy could react, his warm lips brushed hers—a quick kiss, light as a feather.

It was barely a touch, but the softness made it almost impossible for James to stop. He gently slid the roses out of her arms, dropped them on the floor, and cupped the back of her head, kissing her for real this time.

He parted her lips with his, deepening the kiss, his tongue finding hers, pulling her into a breathless haze.

Emmy’s knees went weak. She clung to his neck just to keep herself upright.

Out of the corner of her eye, she caught the movers still working, glancing over with obvious curiosity.

Her cheeks went hot. She pressed a hand to James’s chest, trying to push him back.

He didn’t stop. Instead, he grabbed the heavy velvet curtains beside them, and with a sweep, pulled them shut, blocking out the world.

A heartbeat later, Emmy felt herself lifted off the floor. James’s hands were strong and sure, holding her up as she instinctively wrapped her legs around his waist.
