A black SUV came out of nowhere, tearing down the road straight toward his mother’s car.
She tried to swerve, but lost control and crashed into a giant tree. The front end crumpled in an instant.
But the SUV didn’t even slow down.
It sped past, then suddenly slammed into reverse and rammed her car again and again, smashing the wreck until it was nothing but twisted metal.
Only then did the SUV finally stop.
The door opened. Two people got out.
It was Evelina, and a big, rough-looking man with a mean face.
On the video, Evelina stood there with her arms crossed, cold and proud, not a hint of warmth in her eyes. Just that icy arrogance.
She looked at the man and said, “Go check. Is she dead yet?”
Dean’s heart dropped. His blood ran cold.
That wasn’t the Evelina he knew—the sweet, gentle Evelina who once risked everything to save his mom. How could she look so cruel, so vicious?
She felt like a stranger.
Dean gritted his teeth and forced himself to keep watching.
The man checked the wreck and came back. “She’s still alive, barely. Want me to finish it and make sure nothing’s left?”
Evelina just gave a cold laugh.
“If there’s nothing left, how will my plan work?”
She walked over to the driver’s side and pressed her hand down hard against the shattered window. Glass cut into her palm.
Blood streamed down her hand, dripping everywhere.
She stared at the blood, her eyes wild and unhinged, then glanced at the unconscious woman inside the car.
“Auntie, you’ve got no one to blame but yourself. Of all people, why did you have to pick Emmy as your daughter-in-law?”
“What makes her so special that she gets to marry Dean?”
“When you’re gone, Dean will be mine.”
His mother’s body twitched, just barely.
Blood splattered across the desk, bright and shocking.
He braced himself on the table, gasping, his chest burning like he’d swallowed fire.
How could this be happening?
How could any of it be real?
From the moment Evelina showed up in his life, it had all been her plan.
She was the one who caused the crash. She killed his mother.
Then, with blood still on her hands, she played the hero and blamed it all on Teresa.
Just because his mom wanted Emmy as her daughter-in-law.
Just because Evelina was jealous.
She ruined everything.
She ruined him.
