Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 406

Dean pressed his lips together, silent.

This whole plan was so carefully laid out and ruthless, there was no way Evelina could have thought it up alone.

It had to be Claudia behind it.

That woman had shady connections overseas and a group of mercenaries willing to do her bidding. Now she’d reinvented herself as the wife of a cabinet minister. With Claudia’s methods, Emmy didn’t stand a chance against her.

Dean couldn’t let Emmy get caught up in Claudia’s games and danger again.

He would get justice for his mother. He would take care of the threat hiding in the shadows, for Emmy’s sake, too.

He looked up, anger simmering in his eyes. “I can’t tell you who did it. But Emmy, trust me, I’ll make sure my mother is avenged.”

Emmy let out a cold laugh.

She already had a good idea who was behind this.

After Sally died, who benefited most? Besides that mother-daughter pair, who else could it be?

She didn’t bother arguing with him anymore. Her voice was ice.

“Go. And don’t ever come bother my mom again.”

Dean’s eyes reddened, his voice shaky.

“Emmy, I know I was wrong.”

“I was lied to… I really didn’t know things were like this…”

He looked at her, seeing nothing but distance and coldness in her face. His heart felt like it was being sliced apart, and his throat filled with the taste of regret.

“I know I hurt you. If you want to yell at me, hit me, whatever—I get it. I deserve it.”

“Just tell me what I can do. How do I fix this? What can I do to make you forgive me?”

A tear fell, full of real regret.

But Emmy’s eyes didn’t soften. She was stone, cold and deep as a frozen lake.

“I’ve told you a million times. I will never forgive you.”

The hope faded from Dean’s eyes, but he gritted his teeth and kept going.

“Then I’ll kneel here until you and your mom forgive me.”

Emmy pressed her lips together, looked away, and gave him nothing more.

She turned to her mom, her voice gentle now.

“Mom, it’s windy. Let me help you inside to rest.”

Teresa looked tired and spent. She nodded.

“Alright.”

Emmy helped her back to the bedroom and tucked her in.

“I can’t help but worry… James seems perfect in every way, almost too perfect.”

“I’m scared he’s just pretending, like Cooper was.”

“Emmy, I’d like to meet his parents sometime. I want to know what kind of family he grew up in.”

Emmy nodded.

“Okay, Mom. I’ll talk to James about it.”

She held her mom’s hand, her voice calm and steady.

“But you don’t need to worry about me. I’ve learned my lesson. I won’t make the same mistake twice.”

“Even if James betrays me one day, I’ll be hurt for a while, but that’s it.”

Teresa looked at her daughter’s clear eyes, a mix of pain and helplessness in her sigh.

“Try to think positive, honey. Maybe… maybe James really is just a caring and patient guy.”

She said it, but deep down the fear wouldn’t go away.

She’d been fooled by Cooper for half her life. She didn’t trust her own judgment anymore.

All she could do was warn her daughter to be careful, to never end up like her.

As they talked, the gloomy sky outside suddenly broke open, and rain started to fall without warning.
