“Aaah!”
Evelina’s scream tore through the room, panic flooding her as she jerked back.
“I’ll talk! I’ll tell you everything—just don’t hurt my hand!”
She couldn’t let anything happen to her hands. Not now.
In just one week, the AI International Competition was kicking off. Her fingers couldn’t handle even the tiniest injury.
She had to win gold. She had to become Dominic’s prized student.
Her hands were everything. She couldn’t risk them.
Her mind spun, desperate for a way out.
Judging by the wild, desperate look on Dean’s face, the plan must’ve already worked. That woman was the best in the entire organization—she’d never failed a job. By now, Emmy was probably already on that ship headed straight for hell.
Emmy would be dragged into that awful place, swallowed up by the shadows, ripped apart by those monsters.
That was exactly what Evelina wanted—she wanted Emmy to suffer, to wish she was dead.
Even if Dean figured it out now, he was too late.
Trading a dead girl’s whereabouts for her own hand? That was a good deal.
Tears streamed down Evelina’s face as she spit out the truth, words tumbling over each other in her haste.
“It was Tim! Emmy’s cousin! After Cooper lost the lawsuit and didn’t get a cent, he lost it!”
“He… he got together with a bunch of criminals. They’re selling Emmy off to South America…”
She could barely talk, sobbing so hard her breath caught in her throat. She looked up at Dean, her eyes begging.
“Dean, I told you everything. Please, go save her… just let me go, please—my hand—my hand hurts so much…”
But Dean’s eyes only grew colder, darker, until there was nothing left but rage. He brought the bottle down hard.
The crack echoed through the air.
Evelina shrieked, her body curling in pain.
Dean let her go, looming over her like a shadow, his voice so cold it sent chills down her spine.
“That makes you an accomplice.”
“Listen up, Evelina. If anything—anything—happens to her, you won’t get an easy death.”
“I’ll tear you apart piece by piece. I’ll make you feel every single second of it.”
He spun and stormed out, leaving her in a heap on the floor.
.
Meanwhile, as Dean raced through the city, the atmosphere inside the Capital’s secret command room was electric.
James stood dressed head-to-toe in black tactical gear, his sharp features even more severe under the cold glow of the screens.
“James, we found something!”
“The one who took Emmy uses the codename Black Mamba. She’s one of the top three assassins in Southeast Asia—a woman, always working in the Golden Triangle.”
“We have almost nothing on her. No photos, no fingerprints. We only guessed her gender by ruling out everyone else.”
“No one she’s ever targeted has survived.”
With every word, the tension in the room grew thicker.
Being taken by someone like that, Emmy’s odds were close to zero.
But James didn’t look away from the monitor. The screen showed nothing but a still shot of a tall, thin figure from behind.
In his dark eyes, a storm was brewing, threatening to tear apart what little calm he had left.
After a few heavy seconds, James swallowed, his voice absolute.
“Lock down the entire city. Find her.”
