Viper grabbed the guy’s arm right away.
“Are you crazy? What are you doing? Pearl wants her alive!”
“The money’s not in our hands yet. What’s the point of killing her now?”
He froze for a second, but you could still see the fury burning in his eyes.
Emmy gasped for air, trying to keep her fear in check. “My password... That’s it. He just typed it wrong!”
The man spat on the floor, losing his patience. “Say it again!”
She took a shaky breath, forced her voice steady, and repeated the password.
The tech guy’s fingers danced over the keyboard, hyper-focused.
He hit enter with another sharp click.
Same screen. Same glaring red error message.
The techie’s face changed. He shot Emmy a hard look. “Thirteenth character—was that a capital I or a lowercase L?”
Emmy’s heart skipped a beat, but she kept her face blank. “Lowercase.”
He didn’t even ask her to repeat it, just trusted his memory and typed it in, then hit confirm.
Your account has been locked due to three consecutive incorrect password attempts.
The account was dead.
“Emmy!”
Tim completely lost it. He lunged at her, his face twisted with rage. “You can’t even remember your own password? Useless! You ruin everything!”
A deafening gunshot exploded in the room.
The gun that had been pointed at Emmy now smoked.
Tim clutched his bleeding shoulder, howling in pain as he collapsed.
The leader kicked his chair away and stomped on Tim’s back. “Pathetic. All you do is make noise and mess things up. Get him out of here. Lock him up.”
The goons dragged Tim away, his screams echoing down the hall.
But the moment her fingertips touched the familiar keyboard, the panic melted away. In its place came a sudden, chilling calm.
This was her territory now.
If she had any chance to escape, it was now or never.
Emmy took a deep breath and her fingers flew across the keys.
Lines of code streamed down the screen—so fast they almost blurred together.
Behind her, the tech guy’s eyes widened. He looked both shocked and a little insulted.
But he couldn’t see what was really happening. Under the guise of unlocking her account, Emmy was quietly swapping out the base commands.
She was hacking a completely different account.
And hidden in the torrent of code—in a rhythm only she and her mentor would recognize—she slipped in a secret signal.
It was Dr. Pepper’s signature Morse code from the Digital Codex. Reed Whispers.
The signal shot out silently, tearing through the digital sea like a bullet.
