The low, awestruck whispers rippled through the room, and Emmy felt her heart pounding with excitement and nerves.
She watched as the man strode toward her, every step making her pulse race even faster.
James stopped right in front of her. His gaze was deep and intense, lingering on her face for just a second before he turned to the firefighter at her side. His voice was calm and commanding. “Are we ready?”
The firefighter’s face turned bright red. He snapped to attention and practically shouted, “Captain! We’ve done exactly what ma’am asked!”
James nodded, his instructions quick and clear. “Everyone, pull back.”
“Yes, sir!”
The team wasted no time—they dropped everything and cleared the area in a flash.
Will led the final sweep, checking every corner. Once he was sure everything was in place, he threw James an OK sign and lit the ignition.
Fire exploded to life, smoke rolling upward in thick waves.
Emmy didn’t hesitate. Her fingers flew across the keyboard, and Infinity—their drone—shot up and dove straight into the flames.
Everyone’s eyes locked on the computer screen.
A 3D model of the building came to life in seconds. Fire sources and hazardous materials lit up in red, while anything alive glowed green.
But the data was intense. The system started to stutter, the screen flickering with static for a moment.
Emmy narrowed her eyes, totally focused. Her hands moved without stopping, code spilling across the screen as she debugged and optimized everything on the fly.
Meanwhile, James had a clipboard in hand, checking the positions of dummies and hazards against what he saw on the screen.
With every match, his calm started to crack, until his eyes were wide with shock.
Emmy’s hard work paid off. The display sharpened, crystal clear. Not a single thing was missed.
Even the dummy hidden in an old water tank, strapped to a flammable canister—deliberately placed to trip them up—was marked perfectly.
James’ voice was rough with shock. “Babe, your system did it. It actually works!”
Surrounded by these tough guys, watching them look at her like she’d just walked on water, Emmy’s face went bright red. She was equal parts embarrassed and proud.
But she knew the truth. Even if she hadn’t done it, some engineer would have built something similar in a few years.
She just had the advantage of knowing what was coming, and the skills to push AI even further—adding that extra spark that made her system seem so miraculous to everyone else.
Emmy was about to play it down when a glaring red warning suddenly popped up on the screen.
Warning! Based on the fire’s spread and the building’s weakening structure, if the core fire isn’t out in ten minutes, there’s a ninety-five percent chance the whole building will collapse!
Emmy’s eyes went wide. “Go! Start putting out the fire now! The building’s going down!”
Everything shifted in an instant.
James didn’t even pause. “With me—let’s move!”
“Yes, sir!”
