Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 543

Half an hour later, dinner was silent and tense.

Emmy sat at the table, quietly picking at the meal James had made. Her lashes cast shadows over her eyes, hiding every emotion. They’d had a fight last night about the baby, left things unresolved, and now neither of them wanted to bring it up.

Finally, James broke the silence, his voice low.

“Did you go out today?”

Emmy just nodded, barely making a sound.

James’s face stayed serious. “Next time, have Micah drive you. Don’t go alone.”

Emmy didn’t even look up. “I’m not that far along. Driving’s fine.”

James frowned but didn’t push it. Instead, he just kept quietly putting more food in her bowl, whether she wanted it or not.

Emmy only managed to eat half of what was in her bowl before she set her fork down.

“You eat. I’m going to the study.”

James watched her leave, his brow furrowing even deeper.

He suddenly lost his own appetite. He finished his food in a couple bites, packed up the leftovers, put them in the fridge, washed the dishes, and went straight into the home gym.

In the study, Emmy barely pretended to read. She stared at the same page for ages, her mind a tangled mess.

Two hours later, she decided to call it a night and headed out. Just as she opened the study door, the gym door across the hall swung open too.

James stepped out, shirtless and still breathing heavy. He wore nothing but black athletic shorts, his skin slick with sweat that traced every sharp line of his muscles. He looked wild and intense, his whole body radiating heat.

He filled the doorway, chest rising and falling, every inch of him impossible to ignore.

Emmy’s eyes went wide before she could stop herself.

“It’s been a while since we showered together,” he murmured, his voice low and rough, “and even longer since we’ve acted like a real couple. If this keeps up, I’ll have to become a monk.”

Emmy’s face burned. She was embarrassed, annoyed, and flustered all at once. “I’m pregnant. We can’t—”

“You’re almost four months,” James cut her off. “I checked. It’s fine, as long as we’re careful. It’ll make us both feel better.”

“I’ll be gentle. Don’t worry.”

Emmy couldn’t argue anymore. In his arms, she felt as helpless as a kitten. There was no winning this.

Soon, he had her undressed and carried her into the big shower.

The second the warm water hit her skin, Emmy instinctively wrapped herself tighter around him, startled by the sudden rush.

With his body pressed close and his arms around her, Emmy let out a silent sigh. In the end, there was no use fighting it. She let herself give in.
